Direct observation of fluorescent proteins in gels: A rapid, cost‐efficient, and quantitative alternative to immunoblotting

This manuscript reports on the use of the endogenous fluorescence of green, orange, and red fluorescent proteins directly in gels after separation by SDS‐PAGE. Implication of polymerase recycling for nascent transcript quantification by live cell imaging

Transcription of stress response genes monitored with live messenger RNA (mRNA) reporters unexpectedly revealed that a similar signal was observed with short (blue) and long genes (green). Polymerase recycling promoted by the formation of gene loops explains this behavior, which is validated by the fact that short genes produce more mRNA.
