Role of low-impact-factor journals in conservation implementation. [PDF]
Abstract Academic review, promotion, and tenure processes place a premium on frequent publication in high‐impact factor (IF) journals. However, conservation often relies on species‐specific information that is unlikely to have the broad appeal needed for high‐IF journals.

Advancing at-risk species recovery planning in an era of rapid ecological change with a transparent, flexible, and expert-engaged approach. [PDF]
Abstract In the face of unprecedented ecological changes, the conservation community needs strategies to recover species at risk of extinction. On the Island of Maui, we collaborated with species experts and managers to assist with climate‐resilient recovery planning for 36 at‐risk native plant species by identifying priority areas for the management ...

Evaluating models of expert judgment to inform assessment of ecosystem viability and collapse. [PDF]
Abstract Expert judgment underpins assessment of threatened ecosystems. However, experts are often narrowly defined, and variability in their judgments may be substantial. High extinction risk of the endemic tree flora in a hyper‐diverse region of the Amazon
The rapid global loss of biodiversity, especially in the Neotropics, underscores the need to understand how deforestation impacts endemic plant species' extinction risk and conservation status. Due to limited ranges and habitat specialization, endemics are particularly Vulnerable.

As climate change accelerates, breeding resilient crops is urgent. The date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.), a crucial 18 billion USD fruit crop, underpins North African and West Asian oasis agroecosystems. This study investigates the genetics and morphology of its closest wild relative, the endemic and endangered Cape Verde date palm (Phoenix atlantica ...

Environmental DNA is a powerful tool for simultaneous detection of rare species and their pathogens. We confirmed the presence of Atelopus at multiple sampling locations and found that the concentration of the amphibian pathogen Bd in eDNA samples was correlated with stream characteristics and the pathogen load of the amphibian community.
