How Life Works—A Continuous Seebeck-Peltier Transition in Cell Membrane?
This paper develops a non-equilibrium thermodynamic approach to life, with particular regards to the membrane role. The Onsager phenomenological coefficients are introduced in order to point out the thermophysical properties of the cell systems.

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Peltier effect in strongly driven quantum wires
We study a microscopic model of a thermocouple device with two connected correlated quantum wires driven by a constant electric field. In such isolated system we follow the time-- and position--dependence of the entropy density using the concept of the ...

COP Enhancement of Peltier-Based Dehumidifiers
A vital procedure for eliminating moisture from the air, dehumidification is necessary for processes like desalination and air conditioning. The Peltier dehumidifier, sometimes referred to as a thermoelectric dehumidifier, removes moisture using the ...

Modeling of the Temperature Profiles and Thermoelectric Effects in Phase Change Memory Cells
Phase change memory (PCM) is an important element in the development and realization of new forms of brain-like computing. In this article, a three-dimensional finite element method simulation is carried out to study the temperature profiles within PCM ...
