An efficiency assessment analysis of a modified gravitational Pelton-wheel turbine

open access: yesJournal of Energy in Southern Africa, 2017
A Pelton-wheel impulse turbine is a hydro mechanical energy conversion device which converts gravitational energy of elevated water into mechanical work. This mechanical work is converted into electrical energy by means of running an electrical generator.

Experimental investigation of design parameters for laboratory scale Pelton wheel turbine using RSM

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is used in this study as an experimental design to obtain optimum conditions for each parameter. This study uses pelton turbines on a laboratory scale.

Studi Eksperimental Pengaruh Sudut Sudu pada Turbin Pelton terhadap Performa Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Gelombang Air Mekanisme Piston

open access: yesRekayasa
Renewable energy is energy that comes from natural resources that are continuously available. Renewable energy will replace fossil fuels that will slowly run out, fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. Dependence on fossil fuels results in the depletion

Failure investigation of a Pelton turbine runner [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering Failure Analysis, 2017
In this paper, an uncommon failure of a Pelton turbine has been analyzed. After the monitoring system detected a sudden increase in the vibration levels, the turbine was inspected. The inspection showed that a fragment of one bucket broke off during operation.

Transient Analysis of Pelton Turbine Prototypes

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2021
Abstract One of the most critical operating conditions in hydraulic turbines is the start-up transient. This may be characterized by the presence of several resonances, which increase the vibration and stress levels on the runners. At present, its study is of interest due to the more frequent starts and stops of the turbines in the last ...

MODELING AND STUDY OF HYDROELECTRIC GENERATING SETS OF SMALL HYDRO POWER PLANTS WITH FREQUENCY-CONTROLLED PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS GENERATORS

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2016
Currently, the hydroelectric generating sets of small HPPs with Pelton turbines employ as their generating units conventional synchronous generators with electromagnetic excitation.

Adaptive Turbine Replacement Improves Hydropower Flexibility in a Changing Climate

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Hydropower plants will operate under new conditions as water regimes shift, reservoir operating rules evolve, and the grid requires flexible balancing of wind and solar. Hydropower plant turbine systems are traditionally designed to operate at the highest efficiency within narrow ranges of flow and reservoir levels while deviations from design

Integrated Renewable Energy for Urban and Remote Communities: Hybrid Solutions with Hydro Pumped Storage and Green Hydrogen Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 10, Issue 5, May 2026.
Urban and remote communities face inefficiencies from centralized power grids. This study assesses hybrid renewable energy systems with storage, integrating pumped hydro and hydrogen. Through modeling and optimization, demand–supply balance improves. The base case achieves low LCOE, strong returns, and energy export potential.

Using Multiple Regression Models and Methods to Estimate Fatigue‐Life Distributions and Construct Constant‐Life Diagrams

open access: yesApplied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, Volume 42, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Fatigue is the most common reliability failure mechanism and has been studied widely since the 19th century. Material specimens are used in laboratory experiments to obtain fatigue test data. An S‐N curve is used to depict the relationship between the stress (or strain) S$$ S $$ and the number of cycles to failure N$$ N $$. Statistical methods
