Study of a novel hydro turbine with ultra-small unit discharge in theoretical calculation and numerical simulation

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2023
A novel hydro turbine with the ultra-small unit discharge was suggested and studied for the first time. It was specially developed for hydraulic energy recovery with a smaller flow rate and medium available head, its highlight feature is straight blades ...

Flow Analysis Inside a Pelton Turbine Bucket [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Turbomachinery, 2006
The aim of this work is to provide a detailed experimental and numerical analysis of the flow in a fixed bucket of a Pelton turbine. The head, jet incidence, and flow rate have been varied to cover a wide range of the turbine functioning points. The experimental analysis provides measurements of pressure and torque as well as flow visualization.

Understanding the Fate of H2S Injected in Basalts by Means of Time‐Domain Induced Polarization Geophysical Logging

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract To help meet emission standards, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from geothermal production may be injected back into the subsurface, where basalt offers, in theory, the capacity to mineralize H2S into pyrite. Ensuring the viability of this pollution mitigation technology requires information on how much H2S is mineralized, at what rate and where.

Investigation on unstable flow characteristics and energy dissipation in Pelton turbine

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
The internal flow scale of a Pelton turbine is variable, and the interaction between the jet and the bucket has strong transient characteristics, resulting in an incomplete understanding of its internal vortex structure evolution and energy dissipation ...

Importance of Variable Turbine Efficiency in Run‐Of‐River Hydropower Design Under Deep Uncertainty

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract When less water is available, hydropower turbines are less efficient, or have to stop altogether. This reality is often neglected in recent work on the planning and operations of hydropower systems, despite widespread expected increases in drought intensity, frequency and duration.

Improving the surface properties of a Pelton turbine bucket via centrifugal casting technique

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
This study examines the possibility of fabricating a complex, non-cylindrical, Pelton turbine bucket by centrifugal casting technique. Oil hardening non-shrinking die steel material was selected for the permanent mould production, machined with computer ...
