Cytokeratin 13 (CK13) expression in cancer: a tissue microarray study on 10,439 tumors

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 131, Issue 2, Page 77-91, February 2023., 2023
Cytokeratin 13 (CK13) is a type I acidic low molecular weight cytokeratin, which is mainly expressed in urothelium and in the squamous epithelium of various sites of origin. Loss of CK13 has been implicated in the development and progression of squamous epithelial neoplasms. To comprehensively determine CK13 expression in normal and neoplastic tissues,

Quantitative Evaluation of Female Pelvic Floor Muscle Biomechanics Using Ultrasound Elastography

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Female pelvic floor dysfunction is a common disease which has become one of the five common chronic diseases threatening women's health. As the supporting structures, pelvic floor muscle is critical to support the pelvic organs, maintain continence, and ...

Simulations of the consequences of tongue surgery on tongue mobility: implications for speech production in post-surgery conditions [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery 3, 3 (2007) 252-261, 2007
This paper presents simulations of the impact of tongue surgery on tongue movements and on speech articulation. For this, a 3D biomechanical Finite Element (FE) model of the tongue is used. Muscles are represented within the FE structure by specific subsets of elements.

OnUVS: Online Feature Decoupling Framework for High-Fidelity Ultrasound Video Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Ultrasound (US) imaging is indispensable in clinical practice. To diagnose certain diseases, sonographers must observe corresponding dynamic anatomic structures to gather comprehensive information. However, the limited availability of specific US video cases causes teaching difficulties in identifying corresponding diseases, which potentially impacts ...

Automatic segmentation method of pelvic floor levator hiatus in ultrasound using a self-normalising neural network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Segmentation of the levator hiatus in ultrasound allows to extract biometrics which are of importance for pelvic floor disorder assessment. In this work, we present a fully automatic method using a convolutional neural network (CNN) to outline the levator hiatus in a 2D image extracted from a 3D ultrasound volume.

Polymer Brush‐Based Asymmetric Porous Patch with Excellent Anti‐Bacterial and Anti‐Contamination Properties Enables Infectious Abdominal Wall Defect Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A zwitterionic asymmetric patch is developed via self‐induced phase separation. The cationic layer exhibits anti‐bacterial efficacy and releases pro‐healing factor, while the zwitterionic hydrogel prevents contamination and visceral adhesion. The strong mechanical interlocking of two layers leads to a high and stable burst pressure tolerance.

Fully Automated Organ Segmentation in Male Pelvic CT Images [PDF]

open access: yesBalagopal A, Kazemifar S, Nguyen D, Lin M H, Hannan R, Owrangi A and Jiang S 2018 Fully automated organ segmentation in male pelvic CT images Phys. Med. Biol. 63 245015, 2018
Accurate segmentation of prostate and surrounding organs at risk is important for prostate cancer radiotherapy treatment planning. We present a fully automated workflow for male pelvic CT image segmentation using deep learning. The architecture consists of a 2D localization network followed by a 3D segmentation network for volumetric segmentation of ...
