Modelling compressive loading in large‐bodied mammals reveals distinct biomechanical strategies in proboscidean humeri

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Graviportal proboscideans differ in limb morphology, adopting slender or more robust long bone morphotypes. Finite element analyses (FEA) on extant and extinct taxa reveal functional differences between morphotypes, with robust humeri exhibiting lower peak stress under neutral and off‐axis loading.

Effect of vertical distance between the heart base and the cuff on arterial blood pressure measurements using PetMAP in anaesthetised dogs

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives To evaluate how variations in limb positioning, when compared with standard position at the heart base, affect oscillometric arterial blood pressure measurements in 22 anaesthetised healthy dogs. Materials and Methods The thoracic vertical depth was measured in each dog from the caudal angle of the scapula to the body of the sternum caudal ...

Higher early radiographic bone healing scores with popliteus muscle preservation during tibial plateau levelling osteotomy in dogs

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objective To compare early radiographic bone healing 45 days after tibial plateau levelling osteotomy performed with popliteus muscle detachment versus a modified technique preserving the muscle and to determine whether muscle preservation influences post‐operative osteotomy stability through measurement of rock‐back.

Unusual Giant Sialocyst Arising From Wharton's Duct: A Case Report

open access: yesOral Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Head and neck masses in adults are a common reason for referral to maxillofacial surgeons and otolaryngologists, and most are benign. True salivary duct cysts (sialocysts) are extremely rare, accounting for < 1% of salivary duct lesions, and primarily involve minor salivary glands. Involvement of major salivary glands is exceptional,

Anatomical Study of Lateral Compression II Screw Path and Entry Parameters Based on Three‐Dimensional CT Image Reconstruction Techniques

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1454-1463, May 2025.
This graphical abstract illustrates a study where 43 adult patients (21 males, 22 females) underwent CT scans to reconstruct 3D pelvic models using Mimics and 3‐Matic software. The analysis measured the Lateral Compression II (LC‐II) screw path, revealing sex‐based anatomical differences that could improve the precision and safety of percutaneous LC‐II

Inter‐Session Repeatability of a Smartphone‐Based Markerless System to Measure Segment Length and Lower‐Limb Kinematics in Patients With End‐Stage Knee Osteoarthritis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
The root mean square deviation (RMSD) across all kinematic variables between the test and retest sessions for walking and sit‐to‐stand. The “Total” RMSD represents the intra‐subject average of the walking and sit‐to‐stand tasks. ABSTRACT Background While kinematic analysis is crucial to characterize multi‐planar functional deficits in end‐stage knee ...

Staged Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion Targeting Driver and Compensatory Structural Segments for Adult Degenerative Scoliosis: A Novel Strategy and Early Outcomes

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Targeting driver and structural vertebrae via LLIF is an effective, minimally invasive strategy for ADS. It offers substantial deformity correction, symptom relief, and progressive postoperative self‐correction while significantly reducing surgical trauma compared to traditional long‐segment fusions.

Iliosacral Screw Fixation for Treating Sacral Fractures: A Modified Pedicle‐Guided Fixation Technique in Prone Position

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Modified pedicle‐guided fixation technique for iliosacral screw placement in prone position reduces operation time and radiation exposure as conventional two‐dimensional fluoroscopy was enough to identify safe insertion corridors. Prone position is also advantageous when dealing with obese patients and concomitant spinal injuries.

Assessment of pelvic tilt in anteroposterior radiographs by means of tilt ratios

open access: yesArchives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 2018
In anteposterior (AP) radiographs, cup position in total hip arthroplasty and acetabular anatomy in hip-preserving surgery are highly influenced by pelvic tilt. The sagittal rotation of the anterior pelvic plane is an important measurement of pelvic tilt

Pelvic tilt compensates for increased acetabular anteversion

open access: yesInternational Orthopaedics, 2015
Pelvic tilt determines functional orientation of the acetabulum. In this study, we investigated the interaction of pelvic tilt and functional acetabular anteversion (AA) in supine ...
