Geomorphic Process Chains in High‐Mountain Regions—A Review and Classification Approach for Natural Hazards Assessment

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 61, Issue 4, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Populations and infrastructure in high mountain regions are exposed to a wide range of natural hazards, the frequency, magnitude, and location of which are extremely sensitive to climate change. In cases where several hazards can occur simultaneously or where the occurrence of one event will change the disposition of another, assessments need ...

Berries and bullets: influence of food and mortality risk on grizzly bears in British Columbia Bayas y balas: influencia de la alimentación y el riesgo de mortalidad en los osos grizzly en la Columbia Británica Des baies et des balles: influence de l'alimentation et risques de mortalité chez les ours grizzlys de la Colombie‐Britannique

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, Volume 213, Issue 1, November 2023., 2023
We developed a spatialized surface for the primary food of grizzly bears in southeast British Columbia. After using this huckleberry patch layer to model habitat selection, fitness, and density, in a bottom‐up top‐down paradigm, we found that huckleberry patches near forestry roads contribute very little to fitness and density.

The animal welfare, environmental impact, pest control functions, and disease effects of free‐ranging cats can be generalized and all are grounds for humanely reducing their numbers

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 5, Issue 10, October 2023., 2023
Trap‐neuter‐release of free‐ranging cats negatively influences cat welfare. Cats in the environment threaten wildlife and public health irrespective of scale. Feeding cats exacerbates pest rodent issues. Intensive adoption and responsible euthanasia are better alternatives. Abstract Although the domestic cat Felis catus is implicated in multiple faunal

Can demographic histories explain long‐term isolation and recent pulses of asymmetric gene flow between highly divergent grey fox lineages?

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 19, Page 5323-5337, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Secondary contact zones between deeply divergent, yet interfertile, lineages provide windows into the speciation process. North American grey foxes (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) are divided into western and eastern lineages that diverged approximately 1 million years ago.

Microbial mats and thalassinid shrimp: Spatial and geochemical interactions in a modern intertidal environment

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This research examines the spatial and geochemical interactions between mat‐forming microorganisms and thalassinid shrimp in an intertidal flat situated on the shores of Willapa Bay, Washington, USA. The study serves as a contemporary analog for the relationships between mats and burrowing organisms in deep time.

The Flooding of Lagash (Iraq): Evidence for Urban Destruction Under Lugalzagesi, the King of Uruk and Umma

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 40, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
ABSTRACT High‐resolution remote sensing, magnetometry, and trench stratigraphy identify a significant flood event at Lagash (modern Tell al‐Hiba) during the late Early Dynastic period (ca. 2400–2350 BC). Satellite imagery and magnetometry reveal a 90‐meter‐wide meander belt—3–15 times broader than documented canals—adjacent to primary temple districts.

Exploring Social Media Purposes and Strategic Approaches Among US Municipalities

open access: yesPolicy &Internet, Volume 17, Issue 3, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Social media represents a strategic tool for governments to disseminate information, build relationships, and achieve outcomes consistent with stated political, social, and administrative missions. As a digital ecosystem, social media is an essential part of any modern communication strategy, though there is little research into the purposes ...

“I Was Known to be a G**k Lover”: Histories of Asian–Australian War Bride Marriages During the Vietnam War

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, Volume 71, Issue 3, Page 416-439, September 2025.
Marriage has long been a legacy of overseas deployment for Australian servicemen. In the case of the war in Vietnam, Australian men often interacted with local women on base, in civilian spaces, or in passing. Occasionally, couples would form private relationships and, in some cases, marry and return to Australia at the end of deployment.

‘No TV programme is made about boring magistrates’ cases’: Revisiting the ‘ideology of triviality’ in magistrates’ justice

open access: yesThe Howard Journal of Crime and Justice, Volume 64, Issue 2, Page 231-251, June 2025.
Abstract Magistrates’ courts in England and Wales deal with around 95% of cases from start to completion, with many cases heard by lay magistrates. Despite this reliance on both the lower courts and decision making by lay adjudicators, it has been repeatedly argued that magistrates’ justice receives little attention. McBarnet (1981) argues that this is
