Seasonal foods, gonadal maturation, and length-weight relationships for nine fishes commonly captured by shrimp trawl on the Northwest Gulf of Mexico Continental Shelf [PDF]
Recent emphasis on ecosystem approaches to fisheries management renews interest in, and the need for, trophic information about fish communities. A program was started in 1980 at the National Marine Fisheries Service Galveston Laboratory to develop a ...

We demonstrated the effectiveness of eDNA metabarcoding as a valuable addition to bottom trawling for monitoring the species composition and spatial distribution of fish and crustacean communities in urban estuaries. We also showed that a multiplexed‐marker approach enhances species detection, especially in some taxa, for example, cartilaginous fish ...

The language of light: a review of bioluminescence in deep‐sea decapod shrimps
ABSTRACT In the dark, expansive habitat of the deep sea, the production of light through bioluminescence is commonly used among a wide range of taxa. In decapod crustaceans, bioluminescence is only known in shrimps (Dendrobranchiata and Caridea) and may occur in different modes, including luminous secretions that are used to deter predators and/or from

The use of vision modelling to design bycatch reduction devices using light
Abstract Artificial light can be used to deter unwanted non‐target catch (bycatch) from fishing gear, which is thought to be achieved by repelling bycatch, or highlighting escape routes on nets. To select for responses in bycatch species, light should (1) cause the bycatch species to avoid capture, and (2) not invoke the same reaction in target species.

Sampling Frame for Mediterranean and Black Sea CFP Monitoring indicators [PDF]
The Mediterranean and Black Sea list of stocks to be used for computing the indicators was based on a ranking system approach for which the species having a rank in the first ten positions either in total live weight or total economic values were chosen.

Abstract Spatial fisheries management is widely used to reduce overfishing, rebuild stocks, and protect biodiversity. However, the effectiveness and optimization of spatial measures depend on accurately identifying ecologically meaningful areas, which can be difficult in mixed fisheries.
