Restricted dissimilarity functions and penalty functions [PDF]
In this work we introduce the definition of restricted dissimilarity functions and we link it with some other notions, such as metrics. In particular, we also show how restricted dissimilarity functions can be used to build penalty functions.

On two recent nonconvex penalties for regularization in machine learning
Regularization methods are often employed to reduce overfitting of machine learning models. Nonconvex penalty functions are often considered for regularization because of their near-unbiasedness properties.

On Shor's r-Algorithm for Problems with Constraints
Introduction. Nonsmooth optimization problems arise in a wide range of applications, including engineering, finance, and deep learning, where activation functions often have discontinuous derivatives, such as ReLU.

Optimal Investment of Merton Model for Multiple Investors with Frictions
We investigate the classical optimal investment problem of the Merton model in a discrete time with market friction due to loss of wealth in trading. We consider the case of a finite number of investors, with the friction for each investor represented by

Multi-Period Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch Using a Mean-Variance Mapping Optimization Algorithm
Optimal reactive power dispatch plays a key role in the safe operation of electric power systems. It consists of the optimal management of the reactive power sources within the system, usually with the aim of reducing system power losses.

Near Feasibility Driven Adaptive Penalty Functions Embedded MOEA/D
This work extends a near feasibility threshold (NFT) based adaptive penalty function for constrained multiobjective optimization. The NFT zone adjoining the feasible region is considered as good one, where infeasible solutions are relatively less ...

EVALUATION OF PENALTY FUNCTIONS FOR SEMI-GLOBAL MATCHING COST AGGREGATION [PDF]
The stereo matching method semi-global matching (SGM) relies on consistency constraints during the cost aggregation which are enforced by so-called penalty terms. This paper proposes new and evaluates four penalty functions for SGM.

Abnormality in the Theory of Necessary Optimality Conditions
The problems of existence, non-uniqueness, abnormality of solutions arising from the using of necessary optimality conditions are discussed in terms of the extension principle and sufficient optimality conditions. Simple examples are used.
