Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

Bridgeout: Stochastic Bridge Regularization for Deep Neural Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
A major challenge in training deep neural networks is overfitting, i.e. inferior performance on unseen test examples compared to performance on training examples.

Minimal penalty for Goldenshluger–Lepski method

open access: yesStochastic Processes and their Applications, 2016
This paper is concerned with adaptive nonparametric estimation using the Goldenshluger-Lepski selection method. This estimator selection method is based on pairwise comparisons between estimators with respect to some loss function. The method also involves a penalty term that typically needs to be large enough in order that the method works (in the ...

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Penalty methods in constrained optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This master thesis deals with penalty methods in constrained optimization. The approach is used to convert a constrained problem into an equivalent unconstrained problem.

An enforced essential boundary condition by penalty method in the element-free Galerkin (EFG) methods

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2009
A meshless approach to the analysis of two-dimensional elasticity problems by the Element-Free Galerkin (EFG) method is presented. This method is based on moving least squares approximant (MLS).

2D MOF with Intrinsic Porosity for Colorimetric Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An uncommon 2D MOF with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that can be mechanically exfoliated undergoes a distinct and reversible colour change upon exposure to various volatile organic compounds. ABSTRACT In this work, we report an uncommon 2D metal–organic framework (MOF) with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that undergoes a distinct and reversible colour ...

Two-grid penalty Arrow-Hurwicz iterative finite element methods for the stationary magnetohydrodynamics flow [PDF]

open access: yes
summary:We propose and analyze three kinds of two-grid penalty Arrow-Hurwicz (A-H) iterative finite element methods for the stationary incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations, which adopt the existing A-H iterative method to obtain the coarse ...

Penalty Dynamic Programming Algorithm for Dim Targets Detection in Sensor Systems

open access: yesSensors, 2012
In order to detect and track multiple maneuvering dim targets in sensor systems, an improved dynamic programming track-before-detect algorithm (DP-TBD) called penalty DP-TBD (PDP-TBD) is proposed.

Single‐Chromophore Homojunction Organic Solar Cells: A Path to Simplicity and Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses how the intrinsic optoelectronic properties of organic semiconductors, their molecular packing in the solid‐state, and internal energetic gradients within a device can enable free‐charge carrier generation in homojunction organic solar cells.
