The problem of minimizing the cost of maritime cargo delivery is considered. The cost is equivalent to the sum of the tour lengths of feeders used for the delivery. The problem is formulated as a multiple traveling salesman problem. In order to find its

Modelling and Smoothing Parameter Estimation With Multiple Quadratic Penalties [PDF]
Summary Penalized likelihood methods provide a range of practical modelling tools, including spline smoothing, generalized additive models and variants of ridge regression. Selecting the correct weights for penalties is a critical part of using these methods and in the single-penalty case the analyst has several well-founded techniques ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Error Analysis of a PFEM Based on the Euler Semi-Implicit Scheme for the Unsteady MHD Equations
In this article, we mainly consider a first order penalty finite element method (PFEM) for the 2D/3D unsteady incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations.

On the adaptive selection of the parameter in stabilized finite element approximations [PDF]
A systematic approach is developed for the selection of the stabilization parameter for stabilized finite element approximation of the Stokes problem, whereby the parameter is chosen to minimize a computable upper bound for the error in the approximation.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Optimal penalty parameter for C \u3c sup\u3e 0 \u3c/sup\u3e IPDG [PDF]
We derive the lower bound of the penalty parameter in the C0 IPDG for the bi-harmonic equation. Based on the bound, we propose a pre-processing algorithm. Numerical examples are shown to support the theory.

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Lower order calmness and exact penalty function [PDF]
In this article, we investigate the exact penalty properties of a lower order penalty function under a lower order calmness conditions. It is shown that the local exact penalization of the lower order penalty function with any positive penalty parameter ...
