Depletion of penicillin G residues in sows after intramuscular injection

open access: yes, 2013
A penicillin G procaine residue depletion study was conducted in heavy sows to estimate the pre-slaughter withdrawal periods necessary to clear penicillin from kidney and muscle. Heavy sows (n=126) were treated with penicillin G procaine at a 5x dose (33,

Limbal cystotomy by fine needle aspiration of a translucent iris cyst in a horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary A 4‐year‐old Cremello crossbred mare was referred to the Equine Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Utrecht University for a translucent iris cyst from the dorsal pupillary margin corpora nigra in the right eye. An investigation of intraperitoneal procaine penicillin G administration in lactating dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This study describes the pharmacokinetic profile of procaine penicillin G after intraperitoneal (IP) administration in 8 lactating dairy cows. Procaine pencillin G (PPG, 21,000 IU/kg) was deposited into the abdominal cavity of each cow following an ...

Stapled side‐to‐side anastomosis to treat a pelvic flexure stricture in a miniature horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Fecaliths are a recognised cause of non‐strangulating colon obstruction in horses. Although they more commonly obstruct the small colon, they can also lodge in the pelvic flexure, requiring enterotomy for removal. Stricture at the enterotomy site is an uncommon but surgically significant complication.

Analysis of procaine penicillin G and ampicillin trihydrate residue depletion profiles in tissues and alternative matrices of cull sows

open access: yes, 2016
Beta-lactam antimicrobials have historically been used as a treatment for illness in sows. In 2011 the FSIS updated its residue screening technologies, resulting in an increase of penicillin G residues in cull sows at slaughter.

A Colorimetric Method for the Determination of Small Amounts of Procaine Present as Procaine Benzylpenicillin B.P. in Veterinary Food Products

open access: yes, 1954
Summary A colorimetric method for the determination of procaine penicillin based on extracting, diazotising and coupling procaine base has been described for animal food products containing between 3·0 per cent, and 2·5 p.p.m.
