A Rare Case of Complete Penile Agenesis

open access: closedUrology, 2020
Aphallia, or penile agenesis, is rare (1:30 million)1 and associated with other urogenital anomalies.2 Under 100 cases of aphallia have been reported worldwide.1 Pathogenesis is uncertain but thought to be failure of formation of the genital tubercle.2 We present a case of complete penile agenesis with anorectal and urological malformations.

Penile agenesis: A report of six cases

open access: closedJournal of Urology, 1987
Agenesis of the penis is an extremely rare anomaly, occurring only once in 30 million births. This low incidence is responsible for the limited experience with this anomaly. There are only about 70 published cases, most reports being of one or two patients.

Penile Agenesis - A Case Report

open access: closedEuropean Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1987
A case of penile agenesis is presented. Psychological and surgical problems encountered in such cases are emphasised. We feel justified in reporting this case due to its rare occurrence and presence of only about 40 reported cases in the literature.

Penile agenesis complicated by Potter sequence

open access: closedArchives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 2001
We present a case of penile agenesis complicated by multicystic dysplastic kidneys and urethral agenesis, which resulted in oligohydramnios, pulmonary hypoplasia and neonatal death. In this case, no external urethral opening was found, and the gastrointestinal tract showed no anomaly.

Immediate reconstruction for penile agenesis

open access: closedJournal of Pediatric Surgery, 1996
The goal of treatment for penile agenesis is early female gender assignment and feminizing reconstruction of the perineum. Historically, this required multiple operations including both vesicostomy and colostomy. The present case demonstrates the feasibility of early total reconstruction through a posterior sagittal approach that avoids diversion of ...

Penile agenesis associated with urethral and bilateral renal agenesis

open access: closedUrology, 1993
Penile agenesis is a rare anomaly, with an estimated incidence of 1 in 30 million. Most cases are compatible with life but require early surgical intervention. This case is unusual in that there was an associated agenesis of the kidneys and urethra leading to fatal oligohydramnios sequence with pulmonary hypoplasia.

Phalloplasty and Urethroplasty in Children With Penile Agenesis: Preliminary Report

open access: closedJournal of Urology, 2007
Female gender has been assigned to 46,XY newborns affected by aphallia, possibly resulting in subsequent gender dysphoria. Prenatal and postnatal effects of the androgens on the brain and sexual orientation cannot be modified later. Therefore, patients affected by aphallia should be raised as males.

Diagnosis and current management of penile agenesis

open access: closedJournal of Pediatric Surgery, 1998
Penile agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly in which early gender reassignment is recommended. In the past, multiple operations were carried out to form feminized external genitalia. The authors performed a definite genital reconstruction in a neonate using the posterior sagittal approach.
