Large‐Scale Applications of Plasma Technologies: Progresses and Challenges

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasma technologies convert electrical power into energetic electrons, ions, reactive species, radiation and heat, thereby breaking through the bottleneck of purely thermal or chemical routes and bringing impressive changes to our world. This roadmap reviews the progress and challenges of plasma technologies from a large‐scale and application ...

From analytical to data‐driven: multi‐method optimization of a bendable mirror system for dynamic focusing

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A small‐radius‐of‐curvature bendable mirror system is developed for dynamic focusing in X‐ray free‐electron laser and synchrotron radiation beamlines, and a transfer‐learning neural‐network and differential‐evolution framework is used for force‐to‐shape modeling and inverse optimization.

Goose herbivory alters soil microbial community functional potential in a sub‐Arctic wetland

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Herbivory alters below‐ground resource dynamics via direct and indirect mechanisms, yet its effects on microbial functional potential remain poorly understood. This limits our understanding of the mechanisms that link animal, plant and microbial functional roles in ...

Mobile consumers influence the shoreward edge of intertidal seagrass ecosystems

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Ecological paradigms suggest that the environmentally stressful edge of a habitat is determined by physical factors. The work finds that, counter to these paradigms, an environmentally stressful edge can also be impacted by biotic interactions and are more complex than suggested.

Proposition for the analysis of background toner distribution to sequence ink lines and printing with a statistical method

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Determining the sequence of handwriting and laser‐printed text on documents that do not intersect is a recurring challenge in forensic document examination. This study proposes using background toner particle distribution analysis combined with kernel density estimation and likelihood ratio calculation to evaluate printing–writing sequence ...

Response of Fecal Bacteria and Fungi to Tannin‐Rich Diets in Sika Deer (Cervus nippon): Evidence from Both Feeding Experiments and Field Investigations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.
