The penile prosthesis remains an important surgical therapy for patients with erectile dysfunction. The semirigid penile prosthesis is the most commonly used type. It has demonstrated its durability, low complication rates (5.4 % - 8.6 %) and costs. Complications observed are persistent pain, perforations of cavernous bodies, hematomas or seromas, and ...

Experience with the Hydroflex Penile Prosthesis
Journal of Urology, 1989Between July 1985 and September 1987 we implanted 51 Hydroflex* penile prostheses for treatment of erectile impotence, with a minimum followup of 6 months in all patients and more than 1 year in 43. There have been no mechanical failures and no major complications. Of 47 evaluable patients 38 (81 per cent) are satisfied with the prosthesis.

Depending on the specific nature of the presentation, penile prosthesis infection can represent a true urological emergency. Certainly, infection is the most disastrous and feared complication of penile prosthesis surgery and is often associated with significant functional, cosmetic, and psychological sequelae. Urethral Injury and the Penile Prosthesis
Sexual Medicine Reviews, 2019The relative infrequency of urethral injuries during penile prosthesis implantation has caused the event to be understudied relative to the morbidity and cost associated with their management. To draw attention to both acute intraoperative and delayed urethral injuries via cylinder erosion by compiling and evaluating the available literature on their ...

The Inflatable Penile Prosthesis: New Developments
The American Journal of Nursing, 1983Only five years ago, it was widely believed that 90 percent of erectile impotence resulted from psychogenic factors. But recent research demonstrates that many such cases may have an organic basis. And the criteria for surgical insertion of a penile prosthesis, a device that produces erections, have also changed.
