Penile Prosthesis in Peyronie's Disease

Summary— Many patients with Peyronie's disease suffer severe penile curvature, impotence, and respond poorly to conservative management. Sixteen patients with intractable Peyronie's disease had surgical incision of Peyronie's plaque and insertion of semi‐rigid or inflatable penile implants.

Experience with the Hydroflex Penile Prosthesis

Between July 1985 and September 1987 we implanted 51 Hydroflex* penile prostheses for treatment of erectile impotence, with a minimum followup of 6 months in all patients and more than 1 year in 43. There have been no mechanical failures and no major complications. Of 47 evaluable patients 38 (81 per cent) are satisfied with the prosthesis.

Experience with the Jonas Penile Prosthesis

Between April 1981 and June 1983 the Jonas penile prosthesis was inserted in 57 patients. There were 10 early complications (17.5 per cent), with 8 operations for revision or removal (14 per cent). Late complications were rare and the over-all success rate was 96 per cent.
