How to do a penile urethroplasty using a novel self‐retaining penile retractor

open access: yes, 2022
Effective retraction and clear exposure of urethral tissue is essential in reconstructive penile surgery. The Joshi–Kulkarni retractor provides stable, bloodless operative exposure via non-traumatic tissue compression at the base of penis.

Acute Hepatitis C After Penile Stem Cell Injection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Hepatitis C is a viral infection that is transmitted via blood or other bodily fluids and usually manifests as a chronic infection. We present a unique case of acute hepatitis C from a penile stem cell injection. Although previous cases have reported the

The impact of surgical treatment for penile cancer -- patients' perspectives. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH: Penile cancer is a rare but highly treatable condition. Whilst over 80% survive for over five years, treatment can have a significant impact on quality of life.

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1 by p53‐ΔNp63 crosstalk modulates the DNA damage response and therapeutic efficacy in HNSCC

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...

Patient‐Derived 3D Heart‐On‐a‐Chip Model of Dilated Cardiomyopathy With Embedded Bead‐Based Mapping of Tissue Contractility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A heart‐on‐a‐chip model of dilated cardiomyopathy is developed from patient‐derived induced pluripotent stem cells. The model recapitulates key disease phenotypes and enables functional assessment through integrated bead‐based tracking and pillar deflection measurements.

Near‐Infrared Light‐Activated Polydopamine Nanoparticles Conjugated With Transferrin Peptides for Enhanced Brain Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Tf‐PDA NPs combine a receptor‐mediated targeting with mild photothermal activation to enhance nanoparticle accumulation in the brain. NIR‐activated Tf‐PDA NPs increase BBB permeability to NPs in vitro and in vivo without inducing cytotoxicity or adverse immune responses.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF ERECTILE FUNCTION DURING ROBOT-ASSISTED RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY

open access: yesMateriali in Tehnologije
To optimize the removal of cancerous prostate tissue, nerve-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is commonly used. This technique aims to preserve the neurovascular bundles (NVBs), damage to which is a major cause of postoperative erectile

Phase Engineering of Nanomaterials (PEN): Evolution, Current Challenges, and Future Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the synthesis, phase transition, advanced characterization spanning ex situ to in situ and operando techniques, and diverse applications of phase engineering of nanomaterials (PEN). It further outlines key challenges and future opportunities, such as phase stability, architecture control, and artificial intelligence (AI)‐driven ...
