Using the Penman-Monteith approach to extrapolate soybean evapotranspiration

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 1993
Soybean evapotranspiration (ET) measured by the Bowen ratio energy balance method is used as the basis for the comparison of a commonly used semi-empirical (combination equation) and a pure statistical approach. Surface conductance within the combination equation was fitted to measured conductance by the Bowen ratio energy balance method.

Evaluation of the Penman-Monteith model for estimating soybean evapotranspiration

Irrigation Science, 2004
The Penman-Monteith model with a variable surface canopy resistance (rcv) was evaluated to estimate hourly and daily crop evapotranspiration (ETc) over a soybean canopy for different soil water status and atmospheric conditions. The hourly values of rcv were computed as a function of environmental variables (air temperature, vapor pressure deficit, net

A sensitivity analysis of the Penman-Monteith actual evapotranspiration estimates

Journal of Hydrology, 1979
Abstract The evapotranspiration component, based on the Penman-Monteith equation, of the distributed Systeme Hydrologique Europeen (SHE) model of catchment hydrology is briefly described. The importance of evapotranspiration predictions to the operation of the model is stressed.

Penman Monteith Crop Coefficients for Use with Desert Turf Systems

Crop Science, 2001
Irrigation scheduling systems which estimate actual evapotranspiration (ETa) by adjusting reference evapotranspiration (ETo) with crop coefficients (Kcs) have been suggested as a means of improving irrigation management of turfgrass in the desert southwest. The objective of this study was to develop turfgrass Kcs for use with ETo computed by the Penman

Hargreaves versus Penman-Monteith under Humid Conditions

Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2007
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has proposed using the Penman-Monteith equation as the standard for estimating reference evapotranspiration (ET 0 ), and for evaluating other equations. The basic obstacle to using the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith equation (FAO-56 PM) widely is the required weather data which are not available

Estimating Turfgrass Evapotranspiration Using Atmometers and the Penman‐Monteith Model

Crop Science, 1996
Information is lacking on the precision of atmometers and empirical models used to estimate turfgrass evapotranspiration (ET). Experiments were conducted to evaluate the precision of black Bellani plates, a class A evaporation pan, and the Penman‐Monteith empirical model for estimating ET of ‘Mustang’ tall rescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), ‘Meyer ...

The Uncertainty of Penman‐Monteith Method and the Energy Balance Closure Problem

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2018
AbstractThe Penman‐Monteith (PM) method is considered the most accurate method for estimating reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0). However, the method has obvious flaws in energy balance closure. In this study, the changing trends between latent heat flux ofET0(LEp) and surface net radiation (Rn) in China were analyzed based on observational data ...

Sensitivity Analyses and Sensitivity Coefficients of Standardized Daily ASCE-Penman-Monteith Equation

Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2006
The sensitivity of the standardized ASCE grass-reference Penman-Monteith evapotranspiration (ASCE-PM ETo) equation to climate variables in different regions has not yet been studied. Sensitivity analyses for the standardized daily form of the ASCE-PM equation were conducted on wind speed at 2m height (U2), maximum and minimum air temperatures (Tmax and

The Penman-Monteith Equation As a Predictor of Transpiration in a Greenhouse Tomato Crop

2003, Las Vegas, NV July 27-30, 2003, 2003
The Penman-Monteith equation has been used to describe the transpiration of greenhouse crops; however, it generally requires re-parameterization for each dataset, restricting the robustness of the equation for predictive purposes. This paper applies the equation to a transpiration dataset for greenhouse tomatoes collected over a period of three ...
