Structural properties and hydrolysabilities of Chinese Pennisetum and Hybrid Pennisetum: Effect of aqueous ammonia pretreatment

Bioresource Technology, 2016
The effects of aqueous ammonia pretreatment on structural properties and hydrolysabilities of Chinese Pennisetum and Hybrid Pennisetum were investigated. Aqueous ammonia pretreatment increased cellulose crystallinities and hydrolysabilities of Chinese Pennisetum and Hybrid Pennisetum.

A SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF PENNISETUM SECT. PENNISETUM (GRAMINEAE)

American Journal of Botany, 1977
Pennisetum sect. Pennisetum includes two reproductively isolated species. Pennisetum purpureum Schumach. is a tetraploid (2n = 28) perennial species which occurs throughout the wet tropics of the world. Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke is a diploid (2n = 14) annual species, native to the semi‐arid tropics of Africa and India, and contains three ...

C-4 Pathway in Pennisetum purpureum

Nature New Biology, 1972
HIGH rates of photosynthesis and low rates of photorespiration are found in several plant species in which the photosynthetic carbon reduction (PCR) cycle is augmented by a second carboxylation system, the C-4 pathway1,2. This pathway does not result in a net fixation or reduction of carbon, but seems to operate as a mechanism for concentrating CO2 at ...

Atrazine and simazine degradation in Pennisetum rhizosphere

Chemosphere, 2004
The ability of rhizosphere of four plant species to promote the degradation of charcoal-fixed atrazine and simazine in cement blocks of a long-term contaminated soil when mixed with a normal soil at 1:1 ratio was tested. Of the four selected plants viz., rye grass (Lolium perenne), tall fescue (Festuca arundinacae), Pennisetum (Pennisetum clandestinum)

Microwave torrefaction of rice straw and pennisetum

Bioresource Technology, 2012
Microwave torrefaction of rice straw and pennisetum was researched in this article. Higher microwave power levels contributed to higher heating rate and reaction temperature, and thus produced the torrefied biomass with higher heating value and lower H/C and O/C ratios.

Reproductive Behavior of Pennisetum macrostachyum Benth., and a New Basic Chromosome Number in the Genus Pennisetum

Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club, 1979
Pennisetum macrostachyum Benth, is a tetraploid (2n = 68), with a new basic chromosome number n = 17. Microspoiogenesis is normal and 34 bivalents are formed regularly during diakinesis. Meiotic I and II divisions, being normal, lead to the formation of a tetrad of four cells with 97 viable pollen. The hypodermal aichesporial cell functions directly as
