STIGMA SURFACE SECRETIONS OF PENNISETUM AMERICANUM
American Journal of Botany, 1989The stigma of Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke is of the dry type. Receptive surfaces of papillae are covered by an extracuticular proteinaceous secretion that has esterase activity. Permeability mapping of an intact stigma indicates that the papillate tips of trichome cells are especially ...

HETEROSIS AND RECOMBINATION POTENTIAL IN PENNISETUM AMERICANUM (L.) LEEKE
Madras Agricultural Journal, 1990The ear weight, grain yield and tiller number in pearl millet exhibited higher degree of heterosis. Inbreeding depression was higher for grain yield in BxB series than in RxR series. Heterosis for grain yield was retained to a great extent in the F₂ of cross L 111 B x J 126 D2B.

Summary Callus cultures of two species of Pennisetum , a cultivated P. americanum and a wild species P. purpureum showed different tolerance to sodium chloride {0.1-2%). P. purpureum was more tolerant and showed a higher growth rate. There was a sudden and drastic decrease in fresh and dry weights in both the species at a concentration of 0.2%

Sectional translocation monosomy in a plant of Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke
Chromosoma, 1980In the F2 progeny of the cross between a desynaptic line and a normal line of Pearl Millet (2n=14) a plant with 13 chromosomes in a half of its tillers was identified. In addition to five bivalents the PMCs in these short tillers carried either a chain trivalent or else a heteromorphic bivalent and a univalent both of which were attached to the ...

Gene Action in Pearl Millet (Pennisetum americanum L. Leeke)
Journal of Agronomy and Crop Science, 1989AbstractGrain yield was largely governed by non‐additive (SCA) type of gene action with the significant existence of additive (GCA) type of gene action. GCA variance due to females was significant whereas due to males was non‐significant under all environments.

Genetics of five hairy phenotypes and a linkage group of Pennisetum americanum
Euphytica, 1979In pearl millet hairy lamina, hairy sheath and hairy stem were inherited as monofactorial recessives while hairy leaf margin and hairy node were inherited as monogenic dominant traits. The gene for hairy lamina hl showed independent assortment from the gene for hairy node, Hn, and showed linkage with the genes hst (hairy stem), hs (hairy sheath) and Hm

Trisomic categories in pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke)
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1988In pearl millet [Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke], in the open pollinated and crossed progenies of autotriploids, desynaptics and translocation heterozygotes, two primary trisomics, one each of secondary and tertiary trisomics, two primary trisomics with interchanges, two interchange secondary trisomics, and three interchange tertiary trisomics were ...

Different dehydrating methods combined with torrefaction were investigated to find the underlying mechanism that how dehydration process influence the degree of hornification. Hybrid pennisetum was selected as the experiment material. Oven-dried sample (ODS), crushed dried sample (CDS), and sun-cured dried sample (SDS) were torrefied under the ...

FIRST REPORT OF NIGROSPORA LEAF SPOPT ON PENNISETUM AMERICANUM IN IRAN
Journal of Plant Pathology, 2014During August-September 2013, a new leaf spot disease was observed on pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) in the Birjand district of South Khorasan province of Iran. Nearly 20% of plants showed irregularly shaped yellow to brown lesions that with time turned dark brown and caused leaf shredding.

Toxicological sensitivity of Pennisetum americanum (L.) K. Schum to atrazine exposure
International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2018The tolerance of Pennisetum americanum (L.) K Schum (P. americanum) to the herbicide atrazine, as well as the atrazine accumulation in exposed plants, was investigated in this study. The germination of P. americanum seeds was not significantly inhibited by exposure to atrazine at concentrations below 100 mg·L-1.
