Inheritance of genetic malesterility in Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke

Euphytica, 1978
A spontaneously occurring male sterile condition was located in an inbred line Vg 272 of Pennisetum americanum. Male sterility was inherited as a monogenic recessive condition and showed independent assortment with hairy leaf surface phenotype.

Environmental Influences on Panicle Differentiation and Spikelet Number of Pennisetum americanum

Journal of Experimental Botany, 1986
Coaldrake, P. D. and Pearson, C. J. 1986. Environmental influences on panicle differentiation and spikelet number of Pennisetum americanum.—J. exp. Bot. 37: 865-875. Pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke) has a juvenile phase after which the time to panicle initiation is reduced by short daylengths.

Amino acids in stigmas of Pennisetum americanum

Phytochemistry, 1987
Abstract Free asparagine levels in stigma extracts of male-sterile pearl millet increased 4.3-fold during development. At the latest stage of development, asparagine accounted for 74 % of the total free amino acids in the stigmas. Together, asparagine, glutamine and serine comprised 87 % of the total free amino acids. Whole, hydrolysed, non-extracted

Effects of dry explosion pretreatment on physicochemical and fuel properties of hybrid pennisetum (Pennisetum americanum × P. purpureum)

Bioresource Technology, 2020
Pretreatment of lignocellulose is a critical step in biomass exploitation. This paper proposed a dry explosion pretreatment based on steam explosion in order to improve energy efficiency and treatment effects. A laboratory simulation test bench was built. Hybrid pennisetum was selected as the experimental material.

Pearl Millet (Pennisetum americanum L.)

1986
Pearl millet, Pennisetum americanum L. (P. typhoides or P. glaucum) is a cereal, primarily cultivated in the dry regions of Africa and India. More than 10 million ha are under cultivation in each of these regions. It is also cultivated in North Africa, but on a smaller scale. As a cereal for human consumption, it ranks fourth in world importance.

Pennisetum americanum as a grain crop in Eastern Australia

Field Crops Research, 1983
Abstract Pearl millet ( Pennisetum americanum L.) genotypes were grown in a glasshouse where they fitted a population which was nornally distributed with respect to maturity, height and seed weight, but skewed towards short inflorescences. Representative genotypes were then grown in two seasons in single rows with and without irrigation and in small

Cytogenetics of double cross hybrids between Pennisetum americanum — P. purpureum amphiploids and P. americanum x Pennisetum squamulatum interspecific hybrids

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1984
Pearl millet, Pennisetum americanum L. Leeke-napiergrass, Pennisetum purpureum Schum. amphiploids (2n=42) were crossed with pearl millet X Pennisetum squamulatum Fresen. interspecific hybrids (2n=41) to study the potential of germplasm transfer from wild Pennisetum species to pearl millet.

Spontaneous chlorophyll mutants of Pennisetum americanum: Genetics and chlorophyll quantities

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1980
Thirteen spontaneously occurring chlorophyll deficient phenotypes have been described and their genetic basis was established. Ten of these - 'white', 'white tipped green', 'patchy white', 'white virescent', 'white striping 1', 'white striping 2', 'white striping 4', 'fine striping', 'chlorina' and 'yellow virescent' showed monogenic recessive ...

STIGMA SURFACE SECRETIONS OF PENNISETUM AMERICANUM

American Journal of Botany, 1989
The stigma of Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke is of the dry type. Receptive surfaces of papillae are covered by an extracuticular proteinaceous secretion that has esterase activity. Permeability mapping of an intact stigma indicates that the papillate tips of trichome cells are especially ...

HETEROSIS AND RECOMBINATION POTENTIAL IN PENNISETUM AMERICANUM (L.) LEEKE

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1990
The ear weight, grain yield and tiller number in pearl millet exhibited higher degree of heterosis. Inbreeding depression was higher for grain yield in BxB series than in RxR series. Heterosis for grain yield was retained to a great extent in the F₂ of cross L 111 B x J 126 D2B.
