Different Tolerance of Callus Cultures of Pennisetum americanum L. and Pennisetum purpureum Schum. to Sodium Chloride

Summary Callus cultures of two species of Pennisetum , a cultivated P. americanum and a wild species P. purpureum showed different tolerance to sodium chloride {0.1-2%). P. purpureum was more tolerant and showed a higher growth rate. There was a sudden and drastic decrease in fresh and dry weights in both the species at a concentration of 0.2%

Male-sterility in nigerian bulrush millets (Pennisetum americanum (L.) K. Schum)

The occurrence of three male-sterile plants is reported. One in a population of ex-Bormu, an improved recommended variety of day-length neutral ‘gero’ bulrush millet and the two others in the selfed progeny of a population of ‘maiwa’ bulrush millet, a short-day photoperiod-sensitive type.
