Fossilized Eggs in a Pennsylvanian Blastoid

Science, 1976
A single specimen of Pentremites rusticus (Echinodermata, Blastoidea) from the Early Pennsylvanian of Oklahoma has hundreds of apparent eggs in one of its abnormal anal hydrospire groups. This rare occurrence suggests that female blastoids in this sexually dimorphic species had modified their anal hydrospiresfor ...

Isopod from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois

Science, 1970
Hesslerella shermani is described as the oldest representative of the crustacean superorder Peracarida, order Isopoda, suborder Phreatoicidea. This description is based on a single specimen of exceptional preservation from the Middle Pennsylvanian of Illinois.

Pennsylvanian Climates and Paleontology

AAPG Bulletin, 1930
ABSTRACT For a half century or longer, the general conception of Pennsylvanian climate has been that of a mild, tropical, or almost tropical, humid condition of world-wide extent. Although this conception results in part from the Laplacian hypothesis, it results mainly from the interpretation of certain characters of the floras and ...

Chytrid-Like Fossils of Pennsylvanian Age

Science, 1978
Chytrid-like fungal sporangia are described occurring in saccate pollen grains of Pennsylvanian age. Both endo- and epibiotic sporangia are present, and may exhibit discharge papillae and a coarse rhizomycelium. Sporangial features, choice of substrate, and the presence of a light refractile body in presumed zoospores suggest relationships with the ...

Midcontinent Pennsylvanian conodont zonation

Stratigraphy, 2013
We update the Midcontinent North American conodont zonation of Barrick and others (2004), which provides a means for correlating Pennsylvanian strata around the Midcontinent Basin and with contemporaneous strata elsewhere in North America. Species of Neognathodus dominate the zonation for Early and Middle Pennsylvanian strata.

Invertebrates in Pennsylvanian Correlations

The Journal of Geology, 1947
Comparatively few Pennsylvanian fossils are known to have precise zonal significance, and consequently most species at present have no more than general correlative value. This is partly because the Pennsylvanian stratigraphic sequence is uninterrupted, except locally, by important breaks separating easily distinguished faunas and partly because most ...

Possible Early Pennsylvanian Ancestor of the Cycadales

Science, 1990
A specimen of Lesleya , previously known only as isolated sterile foliage, has been found with two rows of ovule-bearing receptacles on opposite sides of the petiole. This specimen is from the Lower Pennsylvanian (Namurian B or C) of western Illinois.

Developments in Pennsylvanian in 1949

AAPG Bulletin, 1950
ABSTRACT Exploratory drilling in the shallow-sand territory of western Pennsylvania (Upper Devonian or higher) during 1949 led to the discovery of 3 new gas fields. One of these may be proved significant in size. No new oil pools were discovered.

Wormlike Fossil from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois

Science, 1966
Tullimonstrum gregarium was a common, possibly marine, invertebrate in certain shallow, offshore waters of northern Illinois during the Middle Pennsylvanian. It had a flexible proboscis armed with teeth; a mobile tail; and a curious transverse bar behind the head, bearing a pair of round, external organs.
