Pentamidine-associated pancreatitis

Two patients without risk factors or a prior history of pancreatitis developed acute pancreatitis soon after initiating pentamidine isethionate therapy for Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. In both patients the pancreatitis improved following medication cessation.
