Infections in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: Evolving Risks and Prevention Strategies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, Volume 116, Issue 3, Page 204-214, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Infections remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), reflecting both intrinsic immune dysfunction and therapy‐related immunosuppression. The pathogenesis of immunodeficiency in CLL is multifactorial: neoplastic B cells impair humoral immunity, T cells are functionally exhausted, and ...

Unveiling the Leishmanicidal Mechanism of 4‐Nerolidylcatechol Isolated From Piper peltatum Against Leishmania infantum

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The present study assessed the leishmanicidal activity of 4‐nerolidylcatechol (4‐NC) (1) isolated from Piper peltatum leaves against promastigotes and amastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis, L. braziliensis, and L. infantum. The plant was fractionated, leading to the isolation and chemical identification of 4‐NC (1). Biochemical techniques were

Chemical Constituents and Biological Activities of Oxandra (Annonaceae): A Review

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Oxandra (Annonaceae) comprises 29 species distributed across South and Central America. Despite this diversity, the genus remains under‐investigated. This study presents the first comprehensive review of the chemical composition and biological activities of Oxandra species, utilizing databases such as SciFinder, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and ...

New Se‐Compounds With Antileishmanial, Antitumor, and Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitory Properties

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 358, Issue 12, December 2025.
A small library of selenocompounds was evaluated for their antileishmanial, antitumoral, and human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) inhibitory properties. Two trifluoromethoxy‐substituted anilide derivatives (3 and 6) were the most effective ones against Leishmania major (L. major) and Leishmania infantum (L. infantum) promastigotes and also showed a promising

Oxidative Stress Modulation and Antileishmanial Activity of Salvinia auriculata

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 22, Issue 12, December 2025.
Ethanolic extract of Salvinia auriculata showed significant antioxidant and antileishmanial activities. Salviniside II, the major metabolite, was isolated, structurally characterized, and evaluated, but exhibited weaker antiparasitic effects when compared to the whole extract.

S100B‐p53 disengagement by pentamidine promotes apoptosis and inhibits cellular migration via aquaporin‐4 and metalloproteinase‐2 inhibition in C6 glioma cells

open access: yes, 2015
S100 calcium‐binding protein B (S100B) is highly expressed in glioma cells and promotes cancer cell survival via inhibition of the p53 protein. In melanoma cells, this S100B‐p53 interaction is known to be inhibited by pentamidine isethionate, an ...

Mitochondrial Dysfunction Induced by a Novel Salicylate‐Based 1,2,3‐Triazole Salt With Potent Antileishmanial Activity

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 106, Issue 6, December 2025.
A novel salicylate‐based 1,2,3‐triazole salt was synthesized and demonstrated potent and selective activity against Leishmania amazonensis. The most active compound induced mitochondrial dysfunction without hemolytic effects. In silico analyses also suggested favorable pharmacokinetic properties and oral bioavailability.
