Associations of legacy and emerging per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) with aquatic communities in a typical subtropical estuary

open access: yesEnvironment International
Coastal estuarine ecosystems play a critical role in supporting biodiversity but are increasingly threatened by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Serum PFAS in Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Firefighters From Six U.S. Airport Fire Departments

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 69, Issue 7, Page 512-524, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Use of aqueous film‐forming foam (AFFF) is a source of exposure to per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for firefighters working in aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) settings. However, data characterizing the association between serum PFAS concentrations and exposure risk factors for ARFF firefighters are limited ...

Human health risk assessment of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental pollutants which can bioaccumulate in aquatic species, raising concerns about human exposure to PFAS through fish consumption. Given the global reliance on fish as a protein source, this study aimed to conduct a traditional literature review to assess PFAS bioaccumulation potential

Addressing the Impacts of Water Insecurity on Infant Feeding: Policy Solutions for the US

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, Volume 22, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Household water security is the consistent access to sufficient, safe water that promotes health. Approximately 2 million people in the US cannot realize the human right to water, which is exacerbated by our climate crisis. Lack of safe drinking water has adverse health effects, especially for pregnant women and infants.

Pure Water‐Fed Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting Using a Porous WO3 Electrode Surface‐Modified With Perfluorosulfonic Acid Ionomer

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
This study demonstrates a proton exchange membrane (PEM)‐based photoelectrochemical (PEC) system for pure‐water splitting using a porous tungsten oxide (WO3) photoanode coated with a perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomer. Proton transport at the WO3 surface is the rate‐limiting step for oxygen evolution, and the ionomer surface modification is ...

Electrodeposited MnCo and MnNiCo Spinels for Anion Exchange Membrane Direct Ammonia Fuel Cell Cathodes: An Alternative to Platinum

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
Electrodeposited MnCoOX and MnNiCoOX spinels on Ni foam are evaluated as binder‐free, platinum group metal‐free cathodes in direct ammonia fuel cells. MnCoOX matches and surpasses Pt in oxygen reduction performance while tolerating ammonia crossover, whereas Ni incorporation dilutes the active Co–Mn sites and degrades performance.

Associations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and their mixture with risk of rheumatoid arthritis in the U.S. adult population

open access: yesEnvironmental Health
Background Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known environmental contaminants with immunosuppressive properties. Their connection to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a condition influenced by the immune system, is not well studied.

Towards a Better Understanding of the Human Health Risk of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances Using Organoid Models

open access: yesBioengineering
The ubiquitous presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment has garnered global public concern. Epidemiological studies have proved that exposure to PFAS is associated with human health risks.
