Perceived Exertion of Physical Activity During Pregnancy
Journal of Physical Activity and Health, 2015Background:Maternal physical activity declines across gestation, possibly due to changing perception of physical activity intensity. Our purpose was to a) determine whether rating of perceived exertion (RPE) during a treadmill exercise changes at a given energy expenditure, and b) identify the influence of prepregnancy physical activity behavior on ...

Perceived Exertion: An Active or Passive Process?
Journal of Sport Psychology, 1985Subjective estimates of physical work intensity are considered of major importance to those concerned with prescription of exercise. This article reviews major theoretical models which might guide research on the antecedents for ratings of perceived exertion (RPE).

Perceived Exertion and the Field-Independence—Dependence Dimension
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1978Perceived exertion responses were compared between field-independent and field-dependent perceivers at three cycle-ergometer pedalling rates. 50 male subjects were classified according to mode of field approach on the basis of their performance on an embedded-figures test.

Perceived Exertion: One Measure of Exercise Intensity
The Physician and Sportsmedicine, 1981Gunnar Borg developed the rating of perceived exertion to measure long-term changes in work capacity. Now it is used to monitor exercise programs for at-risk individuals and cardiac patients.

Cardiovascular Fitness and the Psychophysics of Perceived Exertion
Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1983Abstract The purpose of this study was to compare the perceptual response to absolute exercise intensities of individuals differing in cardiovascular fitness using both the RPE scale and a magnitude estimation procedure. Male (N = 34) and female (N = 41) subjects were classified as either high or low fit on the basis of predicted maximal oxygen uptake.

Some Studies of Perceived Exertion in Sports
1986In physical exercise and various sport activities the perception of exertion gives valuable information about the degree of physical strain as a complement to physiological indicators (Borg, 1962, 1978). Many of the problems listed in my opening address at this symposium (Borg, 1986) are of relevance for studies in sports. Of special interest are those
