Perceptual Audio Coding Using N-Channel Lattice Vector Quantization

open access: closed2006 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speed and Signal Processing Proceedings, 2006
We consider the problem of reliable distribution of audio over packet-switched networks. We make use of multiple-description coding combined with transform coding in order to obtain robustness towards packet losses. Previous approaches to this problem were restricted to the case of only two descriptions.

Joint speech/audio coding based scalable perceptual audio coding

2014 IEEE/ACIS 13th International Conference on Computer and Information Science (ICIS), 2014
With the technical evolution of global mobile communications, various heterogeneous communication environments, frequently fluctuant bandwidth and multiform signals put new challenges to coding technology of multimedia signals. Scalable Audio Coding (SAC) can provide smooth transition between different coding qualities, which is an optimal choice for ...

Compression Artifacts in Perceptual Audio Coding

IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2008
Perceptual audio coding achieves a high compression ratio by exploiting the perceptual irrelevance and data redundancies. By using advanced and sophisticated signal processing methods, perceptual coding has generated artifacts that are quite different from the traditional distortions.

Perceptual Audio Coding Using Sinusoidal/Optimum Wavelet Representation

Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing, 2002
A perceptual audio coder, in which each audio segment is adaptively analyzed using either a sinusoidal or an optimum wavelet basis according to the time-varying characteristics of the audio signals, has been constructed. The basis optimization is achieved by a novel switched filter bank scheme, which switches between a uniform filter bank structure

On Integer MDCT for Perceptual Audio Coding

IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, 2007
In MPEG-4 scalable lossless coding (SLS) which was recently published as an ISO standard in June 2006, the integer modified discrete cosine transform (IntMDCT) was adopted to enable efficient lossless reconstruction. In addition, there is an MDCT filterbank which is inherent to the advanced audio coding (AAC) core that is present in the SLS codec.

A progressive approach for perceptual audio coding

2000 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo. ICME2000. Proceedings. Latest Advances in the Fast Changing World of Multimedia (Cat. No.00TH8532), 2002
A progressive approach to perceptual audio coding is presented in this paper. In contrast with existing perceptual audio coding schemes where the digital audio signal is encoded at a fixed bit rate, the progressive approach achieves fully embedded audio coding whose bit rate can be controlled dynamically, making it useful in audio networking ...

Perceptual Audio Coding

2014
Abstract Audio Coding has proliferated as a mainstream enabling digital technology for all types of applications that provide audio and multimedia to consumers using transmission or storage channels with limited capacity. Since its infancies in the eighties and early nineties, the technology behind low bitrate audio coding has developed rapidly until

Transparent bitrate estimation for perceptual audio coding

2009 4th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2009
In this paper, the relationship between the features of the input audio and its corresponding transparent bitrate is studied. This relationship can be used to pre-estimate the transparent bitrate required for an input audio file, so that this bitrate can be used for encoding and the transparent quality can be achieved with the minimum compressed file ...
