JPEG2000 encoding with perceptual distortion control [PDF]
In this paper, a new encoding approach is proposed to control the JPEG2000 encoding in order to reach a desired perceptual quality. The new method is based on a vision model that incorporates various masking effects of human visual perception and a perceptual distortion metric that takes spatial and spectral summation of individual quantization errors ...

Distorted perceptual face maps
Recent research has shown that proprioception relies on distorted representations of body size and shape. By asking participants to localise multiple landmarks in space, perceptual body maps can be constructed. Such maps of the hand and forearm is highly distorted, with large overestimation of limb width compared to length.

On Perception and Consciousness in HPPD: A Systematic Review
Hallucinogen-persisting perception disorder (HPPD) features as a diagnostic category in the DSM-5, ICD-11, and other major classifications, but our knowledge of the phenomenology of the perceptual symptoms involved and the changes in consciousness during

HEVC perceptual intra-frame rate control inspired by video subjective observation experiment
In view of the low perceptual rate-distortion performance of the rate control method used in high efficiency video coding (HEVC), an intra-frame rate control algorithm to effectively improve the perceptual rate-distortion performance of video was ...

Evaluation of a Framework for Robust Image Reversible Watermarking
In the literature, robust reversible watermarking schemes (RWSs) allow the extraction of watermarks after the images have suffered attacks; however, the modified images are compromised.

Correction of geometric perceptual distortions in pictures [PDF]
We suggest an approach for correcting several types of perceived geometric distortions in computer-generated and photographic images. The approach is based on a mathematical formalization of desirable properties of pictures. We provide a review of perception of pictures and identify perceptually important geometric properties of images.

Analysis of the Perceptual Quality Performance of Different HEVC Coding Tools
Each new video encoding standard includes encoding techniques that aim to improve the performance and quality of the previous standards. During the development of these techniques, PSNR was used as the main distortion metric.

Perceptual Distortions of 3-D Finger Size [PDF]
Our body is a volumetric, three-dimensional (3-D) object in the world, and we experience it as such. Existing methods for measuring the perceptual body image, however, have been based on judgments of one-dimensional (1-D) length or two-dimensional images.

Perception-Based CTU Level Bit Allocation for Intra High Efficiency Video Coding
The conventional rate control algorithm does not fully consider the characteristics of the Human Visual System (HVS). To address this problem, in this paper, a perception based Coding Tree Unit (CTU) level bit allocation algorithm for intra High ...
