Perceptual masking of boar taint in Swedish fermented sausages

Meat Science, 2009
Surgical castration of male piglets has traditionally been practiced to avoid development of boar taint in pork meat which can occur if entire male pigs are raised. Boar taint is commonly characterised as exhibiting the odour and flavour of urine and manure.

Spectral Envelope and Perceptual Masking Models

2017
Envelope models describe the gross shape of a signal, such as the magnitude spectrum of a speech signal. An envelope model of the spectrum is thus a source model of the speech signal. Perceptual (frequency) masking models are evaluation models, which describe the magnitude of the perceptually detrimental effect of errors in different parts of the ...

Perceptual data hiding exploiting between-coefficient contrast masking

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
This paper proposes a novel data hiding scheme in which a payload is embedded into the discrete cosine transform domain. The characteristics of the Human Visual System (HVS) with respect to image fruition have been exploited to adapt the strength of the embedded data and integrated in the design of a digital image watermarking system.

Visual masking model for perceptual color image compression

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
The quality of compressed images can be remarkabley improved if the dictates of the Human Visual System (HVS) requirements are followed. To achieve this goal, our strategy is to exploit human visual masking effect using a subband decomposition. A combination of both intra channel and inter channel masking property is then performed.

Forward masking of amplitude modulation: Sensory versus perceptual components

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Previous findings suggest that forward masking in the amplitude-modulation (AM) domain includes both sensory and perceptual components. The sensory component reflects masking associated with AM-rate-selective neural channels, whereas the perceptual component reflects masking associated with perceived target-masker similarity.

Audio Coding Using Masking-threshold Adapted Perceptual Filter

Proceedings., IEEE Workshop on Speech Coding for Telecommunications,, 2005
Most current work in LPC-based coding employs either postfitering or noise spectral shaping to take into account the auditory masking effect. In both cases, the LPC parameters are used to characterize both the synthesis filter and the perceptual weighting filter.
