Copper(II), a Peculiar Metal Ion for Complexation with Monensin A Ionophore

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Copper(II) forms three chiral and EPR‐active complexes with monensinate A in methanol. Beside the bis [CuL2] and mono [CuL]+ species, the new dinuclear construct [Cu2L]3+ exhibits an [ML]+‐type and a metal salt‐type copper(II) centers weakly bound to each other through counter ion(s) and thus, being magnetically independent.

High Tolerance of Hydrogenothermus marinus to Sodium Perchlorate

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
On Mars, significant amounts (0.4–0.6%) of perchlorate ions were detected in dry soil by the Phoenix Wet Chemistry Laboratory and later confirmed with the Mars Science Laboratory. Therefore, the ability of Hydrogenothermus marinus, a desiccation tolerant

Resolving a Nearly Two‐Centuries‐Old Mystery: On the Structural Chemistry and Physicochemical Properties of Compounds Associated With the Term Ammelide

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of ammelide, also known as melanuric acid, was solved almost 200 years after its discovery by Liebig. Moreover, three modifications of its 1:1 adduct with ammeline were structurally elucidated, consisting of layers with a honeycomb motif analogous to melamine cyanurate.

Evidence of Influence of Human Activities and Volcanic Eruptions on Environmental Perchlorate from a 300-Year Greenland Ice Core Record.

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Technology, 2018
A 300-year (1700-2007) chronological record of environmental perchlorate, reconstructed from high-resolution analysis of a central Greenland ice core, shows that perchlorate levels in the post-1980 atm were two-to-three times those of the pre-1980 ...

Aqueous Supercapacitor with Wide‐Temperature Operability and over 100,000 Cycles Enabled by Water‐in‐Salt Electrolyte

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
This study presents a symmetric supercapacitor with activated carbon electrodes and a “water‐in‐salt” electrolyte (WiSE) based on lithium perchlorate, offering over 100,000 cycles with over 90 % capacity retention. The supercapacitor operates efficiently from −20 to 80 °C, enhancing performance, stability, and all‐season operability.

Gallium Vanadium Oxide‐Based Free‐Standing Versatile Electrode for Next‐Generation Lithium and Sodium Energy Storage: Combined Experimental and First‐Principles Insights into Electrochemical Performance

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A gallium vanadium oxide (GVO)‐based free‐standing electrode is fabricated via a two‐step process involving a wet ball mill followed by thermal treatment and the surface‐engineered tape casting technique. The resulting GVO‐based free‐standing composite electrode has been successfully utilized for four distinct energy storage applications without any ...

Evidence for Adsorption of Chlorine Species on Iron(III) (hydr)oxides in the Sheepbed Mudstone, Gale Crater, Mars [PDF]

open access: yes
Chlorine is a widespread element on Mars present in dust, soils and rocks, including the Sheepbed mudstone at Yellowknife Bay, Gale crater. Combined elemental and volatile analyses of two drilled samples, Cumberland and John Klein, indicated that ...

Bio‐Inspired Ordered WO3 Nano‐Helixes Enable Multi‐Band Electrochromic Smart Windows with Ultrafast Switching and Robust Cyclability

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Biomimetic ordered nano‐helix WO3 films enable multi‐band electrochromic photothermal management across the visible, near‐infrared, mid‐ and long‐wave infrared spectra, with ultrafast switching (<3 s) and robust durability (>10 000 cycles). These findings establish new paradigms for next‐generation photothermal management systems and energy‐efficient ...
