Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Line-of-Sight Percolation [PDF]

open access: yesCombinatorics, Probability and Computing, 2009
Given ω ≥ 1, let $\Z^2_{(\omega)}$ be the graph with vertex set $\Z^2$ in which two vertices are joined if they agree in one coordinate and differ by at most ω in the other. (Thus $\Z^2_{(1)}$ is precisely $\Z^2$.) Let pc(ω) be the critical probability for site percolation on $\Z^2_{(\omega)}$.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

A percolation model of the product lifecycle [PDF]

open access: yes
The product lifecycle model can be understood as a three-stage model of technological development associated with a particular product technology. In the explorative stage many different designs are developed, in the development stage products become ...

Irrigation and percolation management for reducing water footprint and nutrient leaching in rice-based ecosystems

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering
Inefficient water management can lead to water and nutrient losses in rice cultivation, causing economic and environmental challenges. This study evaluated the effects of irrigation and percolation management on nutrient leaching, rice yield, and water ...

Percolation on the institute-enterprise R&D collaboration networks

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2015
Realistic network-like systems are usually composed of multiple networks with interacting relations such as school-enterprise research and development (R&D) collaboration networks.

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Chaos, Percolation and the Coronavirus Spread

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
The dynamics of the spreading of the COVID-19 virus has similar features to turbulent flow, chaotic maps, and other non-linear systems: a small seed grows exponentially and eventually saturates.

The percolating cluster is invisible to image recognition with deep learning

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
We study the two-dimensional site-percolation model on a square lattice. In this paradigmatic model, sites are randomly occupied with probability p ; a second-order phase transition from a non-percolating to a fully percolating phase appears at ...
