Multidisciplinary Management of a Crown‐Root Fracture Using Fragment Reattachment

open access: yesJournal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The case report describes conservative multidisciplinary management of a crown‐root fracture in the maxillary right central incisor with violation of the supracrestal tissue attachment. Clinical Considerations A 22‐year‐old patient presented 24 h after dental trauma with pulp exposure and subgingival extension of the fracture line ...

Marine migration influences mercury accumulation in anadromous Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Mercury (Hg) is a globally distributed toxic metal present in northern natural environments that biomagnifies in food webs and bioaccumulates in apex predator fish, such as Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus)—an iteroparous species with a circumpolar distribution. Arctic char exhibit a variety of life history types, with the migrating, anadromous

Energetic costs of catch and release angling in Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) at two temperatures

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Catch and release (C&R) angling is a common practice in recreational fisheries, which can involve a range of acute stressors for fish that lead to physiological and behavioural impairments. Following a C&R event, energy is expended to fuel recovery, while a cessation in feeding can limit energy intake.

Syrinx anatomy and vocalizations in New World vultures (Aves: Cathartidae): Implications for avian vocal evolution

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
New World vultures are the only avian clade proposed to lack a syrinx and have been described as non‐vocal. Using dissection, diceCT, and histology, we demonstrate that cathartid vultures have novel syringeal features that form a syrinx and vocal characterization reveals that they produce more complex vocalizations than previously reported.

African ape carpal morphology is not too specialized to represent the ancestral hominin carpus

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Knuckle walking is one hypothesized behavior of the Pan‐Homo last common ancestor. We analyzed carpal morphology, including Euclidean distances between behavioral pairs, to investigate whether the carpals of knuckle‐walking taxa appear relatively specialized.
