Emergency Surgery After Percutaneous Closure of Cribriform Atrial Septal Defect: Case Report

open access: yesÇukurova Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dergisi, 2014
In this report we aimed to present a 22-year-old female that underwent emergency surgery after an unsuccessful percutaneous closure of cribriform atrial septal defect.Percutaneous closure is a safe alternative for appropriately selected cases with atrial

Percutaneous versus surgical closure of paravalvular leaks in prosthetic valves: A cross‐sectional comparison of clinical outcomes

open access: yesHealth Science Reports
Background and Aims Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a serious complication of prosthetic valve replacement. Both surgical and percutaneous closure techniques are used for PVL closure, but optimal strategies and comparative outcomes are uncertain.

Cognitive and Neuroimaging Divergence Between Juvenile and Adult FUS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Fused in sarcoma (FUS)‐associated juvenile ALS (jALS) represents a distinct and aggressive subgroup with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis.

A second percutaneous closure due to residual mitral paravalvular leak and successful treatment of device embolization

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2013
Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a common complication after surgical valve replacement. Most PVLs remain clinically silent; however, some may require reoperation due to symptomatic PVL. Surgical closure of PVL remains the most common therapy for these defects;

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Coronary Artery Calcium Progression: A Case Cohort Analysis From ELSA‐Brasil

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To investigate the association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) prevalence, incidence, and progression over four years in adults without prior cardiovascular disease. Methods A case‐cohort study within the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA‐Brasil) included 585 participants (86 patients with ...

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

An Integrated Oxygen‐Supplying Device and Predictive Multiphysics Model for Extended Ambient Transport of Insulin‐Producing Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cell therapies typically rely on cold‐chain logistics and cryopreservation, limiting access and compromising cell quality. Here, a dual‐chamber device separates an oxygen‐supplying chamber from a hyaluronic acid cargo chamber, sustaining oxygen delivery for over 70 h and enabling ambient‐temperature shipment.

Percutaneous Closure of the Left Atrial Appendage

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 2003
Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) are at high risk of stroke. More than 15% of all strokes are due to atrial fibrillation. So far anticoagulation is the treatment of choice with a risk reduction of almost 70%. On the other hand, anticoagulation has many side effects such as intracranial or gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

Topically Delivered Treg‐Attracting Microparticle‐Hydrogel Composites Recruit Regulatory T Cells and Limit Cardiac Injury After Severe Ischemia

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
CCL22‐releasing PLGA microparticles (MP) suspended in topically applied hydrogels (HEART) establish a sustained chemokine gradient at the injured myocardium. HEART recruits CCR4+ regulatory T cells, reduces infarct size and graft fibrosis, and improves cardiac function.
