A Retrospective Study on Use of Neutrophil‐Lymphocyte Ratio as a Prognostic Measurement to Assess Acute Diverticulitis

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Graphical abstract representation of Neutrophil‐lymphocyte ratio use as a prognostic marker in acute diverticulitis. ABSTRACT Background Acute diverticulitis (AD) is a common surgical condition and the Neutrophil‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an emerging biomarker ratio used to guide its management.

Perioperative Mechanical Circulatory Support for Cardiac Assistance in Thoracic Surgery: A Scoping Review

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
High‐risk cardiac patients may benefit from timely temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) implantation to provide perioperative hemodynamic stabilization and circulatory support, thus enabling them to undergo life‐saving thoracic surgery. CPB: cardiopulmonary bypass; IABP: intra‐aortic balloon pump; tMCS: temporary mechanical circulatory ...

Association of Aortic Root and Valve Morphology With De Novo Aortic Valve Regurgitation After Implantation of Left Ventricular Assist Device

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Large preoperative aortic virtual basal ring diameter to geometric height ratio may be a novel risk factor for de novo aortic insufficiency after durable LVAD implantation and assist in determining surgical indications for concomitant aortic valve procedures with LVAD implantation.

Impact of Frailty in Patients With Continuous‐Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device Therapy in End‐Stage Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Frailty significantly impacts clinical outcomes in LVAD recipients. This systematic review and meta‐analysis reveal that frail patients experience higher long‐term mortality but comparable short‐term mortality, hospital stay, and complication rates to non‐frail patients.
