Complications of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America, 1996Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy has become the procedure of choice for the establishment of enteral feedings in most clinical settings. Minor modifications in the technique and tools of PEG may have had some effect on the type of complications seen with this procedure.

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
1997Since its introduction in 1980 percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) has found a firm position in the care of prolonged enteral nutrition1,2. Compared to long-term nasogastric tubes, PEG catheters are more comfortable for patients. Moreover, less frequent sinusitis and pulmonary complications due to aspiration have been claimed3.

Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy
2010Malnutrition is a common problem in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Enteral nutrition has been shown to be superior to improve morbidity and mortality rates compared to parenteral nutrition.1 Enteral feeding prevents gut atrophy and bacterial translocation, thereby reducing infectious complications, such as pneumonias and intra-abdominal ...

Comparison of Operative Gastrostomy with Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy
Military Medicine, 1990The purpose of this study was to review our experience with 83 operative gastrostomies (OG) and 51 percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies (PEG) and assess the advantage of one procedure over the other. The overall complication rate for the OG group was 30% with three cases of gastrocutaneous fistula.

BACKGROUND Standard care for initiation of enteral feeding in children has been pull percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (pull-PEG). As an alternative to pull-PEG, a 1-step endoscopic procedure for inserting a low-profile gastrostomy tube "button" has ...

Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy
2012Children who are unable to maintain adequate nutrition due to poor oral intake require enteral feeding [1–4]. In this situation, a clinical judgement is usually made between either nasogastric feeds or gastrostomy. The decision hinges on the benefits of a long-term gastrostomy versus the risks of the procedure [5]. Nasogastric feeds are often commenced
