Intraluminal measurement of papillary duct urine pH, in vivo: a pilot study in the swine kidney [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We describe the in vivo use of an optic-chemo microsensor to measure intraluminal papillary duct urine pH in a large mammal. Fiber-optic pH microsensors have a tip diameter of 140-µm that allows insertion into papillary Bellini ducts to measure tubule ...

Flexible ureteroscopy with a flexible and navigable suction ureteral access sheath versus mini‐percutaneous nephrolithotomy for 1–2 cm lower pole renal stones: Protocol for an international, multicentre, randomized non‐inferiority trial (FLAME trial)

open access: yesBJUI Compass, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Background Lower pole renal stones measuring 1–2 cm remain challenging to treat. While mini‐percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini‐PCNL) provides high stone‐free rates (SFRs), it carries tract‐related morbidity. Flexible ureteroscopy (f‐URS) is less invasive but limited in SFR.

Supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy: con.

open access: yesUrology journal, 2011
Advocates of supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) consider several theoretical advantages for this procedure. Despite the potential advantages of the supine PCNL, the majority of urologists have remained reluctant to perform this technique. This reluctance may be related to successful outcomes of prone PCNL and technical difficulties associated ...
