Antibiotic bonded nephrostomy catheters for percutaneous nephrostomies
Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, 1990A prospective controlled trial of the effectiveness of a cefoxitin-bonded nephrostomy catheter was undertaken to determine the effectiveness of an antibiotic bonded catheter in decreasing the infectious complications of percutaneous nephrostomy. The study concludes that bonding of the antibiotic cefoxitin to percutaneous nephrostomy catheters did not ...

A New Percutaneous Nephrostomy Set
Journal of Urology, 1983AbstractA new percutaneous nephrostomy set is described. The set minimizes the manipulations involved and avoids kinking of the nephrostomy tube at its entry through the fascia or at the kidney surface. It allows insertion of any tubing up to 8F.

Percutaneous nephrostomy — Technique
Urologic radiology, 1981Percutaneous nephrostomy is increasingly used for temporary relief of upper urinary tract obstruction. The technique described involves the use of angiographic catheters and guides, and will provide drainage for several weeks or months. The patient is placed in the prone oblique position after intravenous contrast to opacify the kidneys.

Use and Maintenance of Percutaneous Nephrostomy
Urologia Internationalis, 1986Percutaneous nephrostomy has been used for the diagnosis and treatment of 64 patients. There have been no unsuccessful attempts at nephrostomy placement and no major complications were noted. This procedure can be accomplished readily and safely, reliably and effectively for short- and long-term urinary diversion in various urologic conditions in ...

Percutaneous Nephrostomy in Supine Position
Urology, 2007Percutaneous nephrostomy has traditionally been performed with the patient in the prone position, probably to reduce the risk of injury to adjacent visceral organs, particularly the colon. The prone position, however, is associated with disadvantages such as patient discomfort and circulatory and ventilatory difficulties, particularly in obese patients.

Percutaneous Puncture Nephrostomy
1962In recent years temporary nephrostomy or pyelostomy has increasingly been used to preserve renal function in cases of ureteric obstruction or injury, in which primary ureteric surgery is considered injudicious or impossible. Such is the case if the lower ureter is injured during a hysterectomy or rectal amputation, if suture lines of ileal conduits and

Percutaneous nephrostomy in gynecologic oncology
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1984Percutaneous nephrostomy is a useful method of supravesical diversion when ureteral obstruction occurs at initial diagnosis of gynecologic cancer or recurrence of disease. Although survival is prolonged, the attendant quality of life would indicate that percutaneous nephrostomy should be performed only in those cases in which there is a reasonable ...

Ultrasonically Guided Percutaneous Nephrostomy
Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, 1990Ultrasonically guided percutaneous nephrostomy was planned in 98 patients with a total of 128 nephrostomies. The success rate was over 90%. The catheters were maintained from a 1/2 day to 150 days with a median duration of 13 days. 26% of the patients had the catheter replaced, mainly because of displacement.

Percutaneous Nephrostomy and Ureteral Injury
Journal of Urology, 1981The courses of 6 patients with various forms or ureteral injury and disruption herein illustrate the value and worth of percutaneous nephrostomy drainage and study. The nature and degree of injury are ascertained, and sepsis and obstruction are managed without formal anesthesia or surgical intervention, leading to ultimate repair in a planned and ...

A New Method for Percutaneous Nephrostomy
Radiology, 1976A new method of percutaneous nephrostomy using techniques to place a No. 12 French balloon catheter in the renal collecting system is described. Case reports demonstrate tumor palliation and temporary drainage to improve the very ill prior to definitive surgery.
