Racial Disparities in Outcomes of Endovascular Procedures for Peripheral Arterial Disease: An Evaluation of California Hospitals, 2005–2009 [PDF]
BackgroundRacial/ethnic disparities in treatment outcomes of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) are well documented. Compared with non-Hispanic (NH) whites, blacks and Hispanics are more likely to undergo amputation and less likely to undergo bypass ...

Patient-specific coronary angioplasty simulations -- a mixed-dimensional finite element modeling approach [PDF]
Coronary angioplasty with stent implantation is the most frequently used interventional treatment for coronary artery disease. However, reocclusion within the stent, referred to as in-stent restenosis, occurs in up to 10% of lesions. It is widely accepted that mechanical loads on the vessel wall strongly affect adaptive and maladaptive mechanisms. Yet,

Acute clinical and angiographic results with the new AVE Micro coronary stent in bailout management. [PDF]
To determine the feasibility and safety of development of this new stent, we deployed 28 AVE Micro stents in 23 native coronary artery lesions in 20 patients who developed acute or threatened closure after balloon angioplasty (BA).

Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty in Elderly Patients
Fifty-six patients aged 75 years and older underwent percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) at our institution from 1984 to 1991. The average age was 76.7 +/- 1.5 years, and 84% of the patients were males. Single-vessel disease occurred in 21 patients, double-vessel disease in 16, and three-vessel disease in 19 patients.

Incidence, predictors, and management of acute coronary occlusion after coronary angioplasty [PDF]
Acute coronary occlusion occurs in 4.3% to 8.3% of patients during coronary angioplasty. Its occurrence is difficult to predict in an individual patient.
