Spectral properties of the Peregrine soliton observed in a water wave tank [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2012
The Peregrine soliton, which is commonly considered to be a prototype of a rogue wave in deep water, is observed and measured in a wave tank. Using the measured data of water elevation, we calculated the spectra of the Peregrine soliton and confirmed ...

Transformation of the Peregrine Breather Into Gray Solitons on a Vertically Sheared Current [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
In this Brief Research Report, we show, within the framework of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in deep water and in the presence of vorticity (vor-NLS), that the Peregrine breather traveling at the free surface of a shear current of slowly varying vorticity may transform into gray solitons.

Peregrine Solitons of the Higher-Order, Inhomogeneous, Coupled, Discrete, and Nonlocal Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
This study reviews the Peregrine solitons appearing under the framework of a class of nonlinear Schrödinger equations describing the diverse nonlinear systems.

Role of Homoclinic Breathers in the Interpretation of Experimental Measurements, With Emphasis on the Peregrine Breather

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
A class of generalized homoclinic solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation in 1+1 dimensions is studied. These are homoclinic breathers that are shown to be derivable from the ratio of Riemann theta functions for the genus-2 solutions of ...

The Dynamics of Pole Trajectories in the Complex Plane and Peregrine Solitons for Higher-Order Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations: Coherent Coupling and Quintic Nonlinearity

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
The Peregrine soliton is an exact, rational, and localized solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and is commonly employed as a model for rogue waves in physical sciences.

Evolution of Water Wave Groups in the Forced Benney–Roskes System

open access: yesFluids, 2023
For weakly nonlinear waves in one space dimension, the nonlinear Schrödinger Equation is widely accepted as a canonical model for the evolution of wave groups described by modulation instability and its soliton and breather solutions.

Dissipative peregrine solitons in fiber lasers

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Photonics, 2020
Abstract We show both numerically and experimentally that a dissipative type of Akhmediev-breathers (ABs) and Peregrine solitons (PSs) can be formed in a fiber laser, and their features could be well described by the laser Ginzburg-Landau equation.

Resonant radiation from Peregrine solitons

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2020
We investigate the phenomenon of resonant radiation emitted by Peregrine solitons. We show that, unlike bright or dark solitons of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the radiation process is affected by the intrinsic local longitudinal variation of the soliton wavenumber.
