Engineered Optical Fibers for Deep‐Tissue Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 10, 13 March 2026.
This review establishes a foundational framework for designing optical fibers for deep‐tissue medicine. It systematically links material innovations like polymers and hydrogels with structural paradigms to enable state‐of‐the‐art diagnostics, including endoscopy and biosensing, and targeted therapeutics, guiding future clinical translation.

Rational solitons of wave resonant-interaction models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Integrable models of resonant interaction of two or more waves in 1+1 dimensions are known to be of applicative interest in several areas. Here we consider a system of three coupled wave equations which includes as special cases the vector nonlinear ...

Gradient Catastrophe and Peregrine Soliton in Nonlinear Flexible Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesChaos, Solitons & Fractals
We explore the generation of extreme wave events in mechanical metamaterials using the regularization of the gradient catastrophe theory developed by A. Tovbis and M. Bertola for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. According to this theory, Peregrine solitons can locally emerge in the semiclassical limit of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

Peregrine rogue waves induced by the interaction between a continuous wave and a soliton

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2012
Based on the soliton solution on a continuous wave background for an integrable Hirota equation, the reduction mechanism and the characteristics of the Peregrine rogue wave in the propagation of femtosecond pulses of optical fiber are discussed. The results show that there exist two processes of the formation of the Peregrine rogue wave: one is the ...

Effects of Spin-Dependent Polariton-Polariton Interactions in Semiconductor Microcavities: Spin Rings, Bright Spatial Solitons and Soliton Patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Semiconductor microcavity polaritons are composite half-light half-matter quasiparticles that arise from strong coupling of photons and excitons in semiconductor microcavities.

A Peregrine soliton-like structure that has nothing to deal with a Peregrine breather

open access: yes, 2020
We report on experimental results where a temporal intensity profile presenting some of the main signatures of the Peregrine soliton (PS) is observed.
