Wetlands as environments of early human occupation: A new classification for freshwater palaeowetlands

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
A new classification for inland freshwater palaeowetlands to be used in the field or core laboratory by sedimentologists, providing examples from the Guadix Basin (southern Spain). Abstract Present wetlands have proven to be delicate, biodiverse ecosystems, that are natural sinks for CO2 and act as good indicators for climate changes.

Contributions of arid climate and hydrothermal fluid flow on sedimentation in saline‐alkaline lakes: Insight from the Ibar intramontane basin (Southern Serbia)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The article demonstrates that brine was central for the supply of Ca and B to the studied saline lake. The ion transport occurred probably by thermal springs, while contributions from surface waters cannot be excluded. However, the saturation and syndepositional precipitation of Ca borates were initiated by an arid climate through evaporation, while ...

Chemical control of Poa trivialis on New Zealand racetracks : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Applied Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Poa trivialis is a perennial grass weed commonly found in perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) racetrack swards throughout New Zealand. Its presence is undesirable as it does not tolerate high wear and is susceptible to dying out over the summer.

Predicting global intraspecific trait variation of grasses

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Plant traits are important for understanding community assembly and ecosystem processes, yet our understanding of intraspecific trait variation (ITV) is limited. This gap in our knowledge is partially because collecting trait data across a species' entire range is impractical, let alone across the ranges of multiple species within a plant family. Using

Potential of current perennial plant-based farming systems to deliver salinity management outcomes and improve prospects for native biodiversity: a review

open access: yes, 2005
Existing perennial plant-based farming systems are examined within 4 climatic zones in southern Australia (western winter rainfall, south-eastern low to medium rainfall, south-eastern high rainfall and northern summer rainfall) to assess their potential ...

Einstein and Tagore, Newton and Blake, Everett and Bohr: the dual nature of reality [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
There are two broad opposing classes of attitudes to reality (realist vs idealist, material vs mental) with corresponding attitudes to knowledge (objective vs subjective, scientific vs romantic). I argue that these attitudes can be compatible, and that quantum theory requires us to adopt both of them.

A one‐year efficacy assessment of subcutaneous immunotherapy in dust mite allergic rhinitis patients based on clinical symptoms and objective biomarkers

open access: yesEye &ENT Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To evaluate the 1‐year efficacy of subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) in treating dust mite‐induced allergic rhinitis (AR) and establish objective biomarkers for efficacy monitoring. Methods Fifty‐nine AR patients underwent 1‐year SCIT. Subjective symptoms were assessed via total nasal symptom score (TNSS), combined symptom/medication

Terpenes and Terpenoids: How can we use them?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
The transition from petroleum‐based to renewable bio‐based chemicals has led to increased interest in terpenes and terpenoids. This overview highlights their chemistry, focusing on their reactivity and applications in polymerizations, total syntheses, pharmaceuticals, and bio‐based chemical conversions; promoting sustainable and green chemical ...

Dissecting Trichoderma antagonism: Role of strain identity, volatiles, biomass, and morphology in suppressing cacao pathogens

open access: yesBiological Control
Cacao farming worldwide suffers from damaging fungal infections, including those caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Pestalotiopsis spp., which prioritizes the development of sustainable control solutions.
