Three decades of experimental nitrogen fertilization increases the frequency of a defensive plant morph

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Resources, such as nitrogen, are widely hypothesized to underlie the expression and evolution of plant defenses to herbivory. However, resource availability can affect selection on plant defense traits in contrasting ways: resource availability can 1) weaken selection on defense traits by reducing the costs of herbivory, or 2) strengthen selection on ...

Limited impacts of simulated soil disturbance by rewilded vertebrates on above‐ and below‐ground biodiversity

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Rewilding with locally extinct terrestrial vertebrates has been a popular conservation initiative over the past few decades. Among the animals used for rewilding are the small‐ to medium‐sized vertebrates that forage in the soil and that have been lost from many ecosystems due to habitat destruction or predation by exotic species.

Nontargeted Metabolomic Profiling of a Single Paeonia Lactiflora Plant and its Quality Marker Identification

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
This study employs nontargeted metabolomics to provide a comprehensive chemical profile of one single Paeonia lactiflora plant using liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry. A total of 214 compounds are identified, including 45 previously unreported metabolites.

Chemical Characterization, Antioxidant and Enzyme‐Inhibitory Activities of Different Extracts from Three Phlomis Species

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The tested Phlomis species are a rich source of bioactive molecules with potential therapeutic applications, and selecting appropriate extraction solvents is crucial for achieving the targeted biological activity. Phlomis species (family Lamiaceae) are highly valued as food and herbal medicine.
