Exploration of Chlorophyll a Fluorescence and Plant Gas Exchange Parameters as Indicators of Drought Tolerance in Perennial Ryegrass

open access: yesItalian National Conference on Sensors, 2019
Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) belongs to the common cultivated grass species in Central and Western Europe. Despite being considered to be susceptible to drought, it is frequently used for forming the turf in urban green areas.

Characterization of inulin extract from Iranian native chicory in comparison with some other sources [PDF]

open access: yesPizhūhish va Nuāvarī dar ̒Ulūm va Sanāyi̒-i Ghaz̠āyī, 2012
Prebiotic compound of inulin has been increasingly noticed by many researchers and food scientists for its functional and health breeding properties. Perennial plant of chicory (Cichorium intybus) is the commercial source of inulin production in Europe ...

Facultative Annual Life Cycles in Seagrasses

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Plant species usually have either annual or perennial life cycles, but facultative annual species have annual or perennial populations depending on their environment.

Xylem embolism and bubble formation during freezing suggest complex dynamics of pressure-tension in Betula pendula stems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Freeze-thaw-induced embolism is a key limiting factor for perennial plants in frost-exposed environments. Gas bubbles are formed during freezing and expand during thawing resulting in xylem embolism. However, when water freezes, its volume increases by 9%, generating local pressures, which can affect the formation of bubbles.

Comparison of signaling interactions determining annual and perennial plant growth in response to low temperature

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Low temperature inhibits plant growth despite the fact that considerable rates of photosynthetic activity can be maintained. Instead of lower rates of photosynthesis, active inhibition of cell division and expansion is primarily responsible for reduced ...

Sustained productivity and agronomic potential of perennial rice

open access: yesNature Sustainability, 2022
There is an urgent need for agricultural systems to intensify sustainably, increasing crop productivity, farmer livelihoods and soil health while using fewer resources. Crop perennialization, the conversion of especially annual grains to perennial forms,

Relative Telomere Length and Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase (TERT) Expression Are Associated with Age in Almond (Prunus dulcis [Mill.] D.A.Webb)

open access: yesPlants, 2021
While all organisms age, our understanding of how aging occurs varies among species. The aging process in perennial plants is not well-defined, yet can have implications on production and yield of valuable fruit and nut crops.

Agrobacterium- and a single Cas9-sgRNA transcript system-mediated high efficiency gene editing in perennial ryegrass

open access: yesFrontiers in Genome Editing, 2022
Genome editing technologies provide a powerful tool for genetic improvement of perennial ryegrass, an important forage and turfgrass species worldwide. The sole publication for gene editing in perennial ryegrass used gene-gun for plant transformation and
