Science of The Total Environment
Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and its new substitute, perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS), are increasing in concentration in the environment annually, and their toxicity cannot be ignored. With an increasing amount of PFOS and PFBS entering the environment, especially into farmland soil, it is very likely to pollute tobacco-planting soil.

Perfluorooctane Sulfonate and Perfluorooctanoic Acid as Emerging Contaminants
Inquiry@Queen's Undergraduate Research Conference Proceedings, 1969Perfluoroocatane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluororooctanoic acid (PFOA) are perfluorinated carbons (PFCs) with varying applications for surface coatings and surfactants. They were produced in mass quantities before an overwhelming international movement to reduce production and use.

Mechanochemical destruction of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) using boron carbide (B4C)
Journal of Hazardous MaterialsWidespread detection in soils and sediments underscores the potential threats posed by persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) to ecosystems and organisms. Nevertheless, the formidable energy of the C-F bond imparts stability and hampers degradation.
