Per and polyfluorinated substances in the Nordic Countries:Use, occurence and toxicology [PDF]
This Tema Nord report presents a study based on open information and custom market research to review the most common perfluorinated substances (PFC) with less focus on PFOS and PFOA.The study includes three major parts: 1) Identification of relevant per-

ABSTRACT Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), a perfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS), is characterized by a long, fluorinated carbon chain which makes it ideal for oil‐ and water‐repellent products but detrimental for the environment, where it persists and accumulates in organisms.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are persistent pollutants that have been linked to chronic inflammation. Epidemiologic studies have indicated that PFAS exposure is associated with an increased prevalence of osteoarthritis (OA).

PFAS from a Discrete‐Event Terrestrial Source Migrates with Groundwater to Intertidal Seepages
PFAS is conveyed to the coastal intertidal zone from sources across the terrestrial landscape. Discharge of PFAS into the coastal ecosystem is complicated in space and time by the ongoing bi‐directional exchange of terrestrial groundwater and ocean water driven by tidal pumping within discharge areas.

Assessing the human health risks of perfluorooctane sulfonate by in vivo and in vitro studies
The wide use of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) has led to increasing concern about its human health risks over the past decade. In vivo and in vitro studies are important and effective means to ascertain the toxic effects of PFOS on humans and its ...

ABSTRACT Per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental contaminants widely recognized for their resistance to degradation and potential adverse health effects. The treatment of PFAS‐contaminated aqueous media (e.g., drinking water, wastewater, and leachate) has been extensively studied in the published literature; however, the

An assessment of organic solvent based equilibrium partitioning methods for predicting the bioconcentration behavior of perfluorinated sulfonic acids, carboxylic acids, and sulfonamides [PDF]
SPARC, KOWWIN, and ALOGPS octanol-water partitioning (log K~ow~) and distribution (log D) constants were calculated for all C~1~ through C~8~ and the straight chain C~9~ through C~15~ perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) and carboxylic acids (PFCAs ...

Perfluorochemicals in wastewater treatment plants and sediments in Hong Kong [PDF]
The study reported in this paper examined the concentrations of nineteen perfluorochemicals (PFCs), including perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, carboxylates, and sulfonamides in samples collected from Hong Kong wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and sediments.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have concerned the public due to their worldwide distribution and the threat they pose to drinking water safety and human health. Temperature and DC field-induced electroosmotic flow (EOF) are powerful tools to regulate organic contaminant adsorption and control PFOS (as a typical PFAS) transport in porous ...
