Different Erythrocyte MicroRNA Profiles in Low- and High-Altitude Individuals

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Background: The number of red blood cells (RBCs) increases significantly in response to high-altitude hypoxic environments, and the RBC microRNA (miRNA) expression pattern is similar to that in whole blood. Studies have shown that miRNA in plasma can act

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Structural Digital Twin-Driven Conformance Assessment of LegalTech Governance Ontology: Reproducible Proof of Concept

open access: yesInformation
The increasing convergence of enterprise architecture and IT governance frameworks, such as TOGAF 9.2, COBIT 5, and NIST CSF 1.1, with LegalTech regulations including GDPR 2016/679, eIDAS 910/2014, and NIS2 2022/2555, has created a growing need for ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The application of Australian-developed performance and genetic technology to the Chinese beef industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In terms of numbers and volume of meat produced, the Chinese beef industry is one of the largest in the world. Development of the industry has only occurred within the last thirty years, and despite extensive cross-breeding programs with imported breeds,

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Decoupling Static Context and Dynamic Change: A Spatiotemporal Decoder With Time-Averaged Priors for Multidecadal Heritage Monitoring

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The long-term preservation of Urban Cultural Heritage (UCH), a key directive of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 11.4, requires robust monitoring of multidecadal landscape dynamics driven by urbanization.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
