A performance comparison of bitmap indexes

Proceedings of the tenth international conference on Information and knowledge management - CIKM'01, 2001
We present a comparison of two new word-aligned schemes with some schemes for compressing bitmap indexes, including the well-known byte-aligned bitmap code (BBC). On both synthetic data and real application data, the new word-aligned schemes use only 50% more space, but perform logical operations on compressed data 12 times faster than BBC.

Glycaemic Index and Optimal Performance

Sports Medicine, 1997
It is widely documented that athletes should consume carbohydrates prior to, during and after exercise. Ingestion of carbohydrates at these times will optimise performance and recovery. In spite of this knowledge, there is a paucity of information available to athletes concerning the types of carbohydrate foods to select.

Performance Evaluation of the Silhouette Index

2015
This article provides the performance evaluation of the Silhouette index, which is based on the so called silhouette width. However, the index can be calculated in two ways, and so, the first approach uses the mean of the mean silhouettes through all the clusters. On the other hand, the second one is realized by averaging the silhouettes over the whole

Echocardiography as an Index of Cardiac Performance

Hospital Practice, 1978
Ultrasound imaging of the heart provides a noninvasive technique for assessing cardiac performance and diagnosing a wide range of disorders. Recent improvements in two-dimensional, planar instrumentation promise to make echocardiography even more versatile, permitting more comprehensive views of left ventricular function, valve orifice areas, and the ...

An entrepreneur performance index

Journal of Productivity Analysis, 2015
A measure of entrepreneur performance is important to identify current and future successful ventures, to further our understanding of the entrepreneurial process and to guide public policies to improve the success rate of start-ups. We propose a single value index of entrepreneur performance that ranges from one to zero, that is predicated on multiple

Index Clustering for High-Performance Sequential Index Access

2004
This paper presents an index clustering technique called the segment-page clustering (SP-clustering). Most relevant index pages are widely scattered on a disk due to dynamic page allocation, and thus many random disk accesses are required during the query processing.

A Portfolio Performance Index

Financial Analysts Journal, 2000
Fund managers may sensibly be averse to earning a time-averaged portfolio return that is less than the average return of some designated benchmark. When a portfolio is expected to earn a higher average return than the benchmark return, the probability that it will not approaches zero asymptotically at a computable exponential decay rate.

An index of macroeconomic performance

International Review of Applied Economics, 2009
This article develops a composite index of macroeconomic performance (IMP) and uses this index to ask: did the macroeconomic performance of the US economy improve during the 1990s relative to its own past performance; and has US macroeconomic performance been superior to that of other advanced capitalist economies during the post‐war period as a whole?
