Optimization of a Biosorption Column Performance
Environmental Science & Technology, 2008The dynamics of copper and zinc biosorption by Sargassum fluitans was analyzed under variable column operating conditions including different column lengths (15 and 45 cm), metal-feed solution concentrations (1 and 6 meq L(-1)), metal-sorbent affinities (2.01 and 0.45), and interstitial velocities (12 and 4 cm min(-1)).

Working with ActionScript can sometimes make bizarre things happen to the performance of your movie. It’s possible to spend days perfecting a game or a web site with tons of cool ActionScript effects, and then find that suddenly your creation is only able to achieve a frame rate of 10 frames per second.

Performance Optimization of SpMV on Spark
2019 IEEE International Conference on Big Data (Big Data), 2019Sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SpMV) is one of the most important computational kernels in solving large scale numerical problems for scientific computing, data analysis, machine learning, and many others. However, its performance optimization on various platforms remains a research problem owing to the diversity of matrix structures and ...

Optimizing Write Performance for Read Optimized Databases
2010Compression in column-oriented databases has been proven to offer both performance enhancements and reductions in storage consumption. This is especially true for read access as compressed data can directly be processed for query execution.Nevertheless, compression happens to be disadvantageous when it comes to write access due to unavoidable re ...

Sleep As A Strategy For Optimizing Performance
Journal of Special Operations Medicine, 2016Recovery is an essential component of maintaining, sustaining, and optimizing cognitive and physical performance during and after demanding training and strenuous missions. Getting sufficient amounts of rest and sleep is key to recovery. This article focuses on sleep and discusses (1) why getting sufficient sleep is important, (2) how to optimize sleep,

Optimizing Phylogenetic Queries for Performance
IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, 2018The vast majority of phylogenetic databases do not support declarative querying using which their contents can be flexibly and conveniently accessed and the template based query interfaces they support do not allow arbitrary speculative queries. They therefore also do not support query optimization leveraging unique phylogeny properties.
